The Royals have been playing since 1969 and ever since they won the World Series in 1985 they have not seen a playoff birth. In the 22 years since that season, the Royals have only put together 7 seasons with an average over .500. They've allowed players such as Mark Sweeney, Carlos Beltrán, and Johnny Damon pass through their team roster. If these 3 players still had contracts in Kansas City they could of been playoff contenders for an extended period of time during the late 90's and early 2000's. However, there is now a changed atmosphere as Trey Hillman, who posted the teams best record since 2003 with a 75-87 record, is a drastic improvement from former manager Buddy Bell who couldn't even keep the team together. They started off strong in 2008, dominated inter league play, all before twirling down to last place in the AL East. With a new attitude that is actually focused on winning, the Royals are considered a team that could reach the Wild Card, that is if every team goes to their farm teams for lineups of course.
