How come no one complains about the counter punch?

I can't have a realistic fight in fight now or in legacy mode. The counter is way to powerful, none of my fights last more than 4 rounds, it's either me or the CPU on the canvas due to a counter punch. I could be in the first round and I knockout Frazier or Ali with a counter or vice versa.

I tried a ton of slider variations, on Champion and Pro, but none seem to be good enough.

Does anyone else think the counter is way to powerful?

I don't think the counter is overpowered, it's just the counter window is too big. The punches that hurt the most are the one you can't see coming. The DLC for counter window is coming in August.

For the record, I don't think counter punches are too powerful. It's easy to come away with that impression because of the screen flash that occurs with each landed counter punch. Sure, the occasional flash KO can be jarring but these kind of things do occur in the real fights. The real problem this game has lies in the stamina bar, but that's another topic.

Counter punches are absolutely too powerful, but it really depends on what difficulty you're playing on. On the higher difficulty levels, counters are the only punches that damage the CPU at all - regular punches are useless. I'm hoping the DLC will let us shut it off altogether.

When I played the game the part I hated was the "pause" in the action when u get a counter opportunity . I'll go over a friends house and give it Another try when the patch cones out and see if it allows you to turn that off.

A game that is billed as a simulation shouldn't have something like the counter freeze in it.

Agreed. A lot of times I see it coming but my dude just will not move out of the way and I have to take it.

Re: How come no one complains about the counter punch?

I think it's over powered, in that in an ideal sim game there would be no need for a "counter" game mechanic. Like what someone said above, a counter hurts because it you don't see it coming (and it lands flush)...but the problem is you don't _have_ to be throwing a counter to land such a punch. Manny Pacquiao lands non-counter flush shots that no one sees coming because he's so fast and throws from all kinds of angles. So in that respect, the game has an imbalance between aggressive fast fighters like Manny and a fast counter puncher, since the fast counter puncher is given an advantage in the game since a flush counter will count more than a flush regular punch, even though the fighter may not see either coming.

The developers have said that punches that land flush do more damage than glancing shots or partially blocked shots, and throwing a counter inherently increases the chance of landing a flush shot since the other fighter is a wide open target while he's in the process of missing a punch, so really there is no need for the counter-punch (and "parry") mechanic at all. The increased chance of landing a flush shot is reason enough to be a counter puncher.

But, having said that, I would really settle for being able to decrease the window. It's pretty ridiculous when I miss a shot, cover up for a good two seconds, and then have the other fighter land a shot to what I'm not blocking and have it count as a counter. Counter really need to be thrown right away....otherwise they aren't counter punches.

Exactly. I've been countered AFTER I've thrown a 2nd punch. Any action (punch, block, move, etc.) should immediately close the counter window.

Not really a big deal for me man. Pretty much all my fights go the distance too. Sometimes I dont even use the counter advantage, I just box it out.

Sometimes the CPU will get one in on me, but for the most part I dont even see it that often during my fights

I like the counter punch and think its perfect as is. Its a good counter strategy to someone who just likes to mash buttons.

Its not overpowered either. Not every counter punch can stun you. Also you CAN block counter punches. So the game is balanced.

This game also has an offline mode. The counter punch is way too overpowered against the AI.

I am using your sliders and before them I was feeling hopeless when it came to them damn counters. But after using em, the game still has some life in it. I just think the AI is just a joke. I also notice how the computer gets off counters in areas were im just bobbing and weaving not throwing a punch or nothing.

And can someone explain to me how the computer always seems to get the hold on you when you are about to knock their azz out, but when they got you in the red, you cant get no consistency with the hold button? Believe me, I have worked that damn button like old school "Track and Field" on Nintendo and still no dice.

Great sliders though Parker. This game was going back to store before I started using em. EA needs to stop puttin all their eggs in that damned Madden basket, and start focusing on why NBA Live, FN 4, and all the other EA Sports games still are lacking.
