    Slo-motion football?

    Am I the only one that thinks the game speed in the demo is too slow. I understand why people say they like it for gameplay reasons but that shouldn't be the point, there shouldn't be different game speeds in a simulation football game period. Football is played in one speed only and that is fast as hell. They even say college guys can't get used to the the speed of the NFL because it is so fast. Why should madden be any different. I'm sorry but slower does not equal simulation.

    Actually in this case it does. This speed accuratly resembles how quick the NFL Moves, use a stop watch and time some players if you do not believe me.

    Either way, you can adjust the speed when you buy it.

      Re: Slo-motion football?

      Considering the regular speed is way too fast even if this is the NFL I like the demo speed, but I feel normal will probably be as close as the NFL as possible.

      And to the "there shouldn't be different game speeds in a simulation football game period" Yes there should. Some people are slower than others with their thumbs, so a slower game fits them. This is a video game we deserve choices like gamespeed. Your comment is like saying why is there different difficulties.

        I like the slower speed actually. Things were kind of hectic in the previous maddens.

          I do like the new game speed. Needs tweaking but I like it, makes the run game feel relevant. You can't just hold down on the turbo anymore, now I have to work the holes and look for open field before sprinting.

            Have you played football in real life before? The game feels 100x faster when you're in it, rather than watching it. Just saying.

              In "REAL" football your're not controlling the QB, RB, FB, TE, WR, and defense.

                I love the speed. I think IMO it is perfect from what I have played so far in the demo. Seems as there is a more cohesive flow to the game at this speed.

                  The slowing down of the game is the best change they've made since 2005. It feels like football again!

                      Re: Slo-motion football?

                      The demos are set to slow. Normal is, well the normal game speed and fast is 09.

                      fast = 09 = 10%
                      normal = online in M10 = 95% of 09
                      slow = demo and play now in M10 = 90% of 09

                      My understanding for why madden was too fast was two fold. The other guy was in charge before Ian, and the Dev team plays on a dev kit that has a lag to it and it plays slower than the retail version of madden. The dev kits for 09 were apparently playing at about 95%-ish of the retail speed, which is where M10's normal speed is set to and they thought "what do you mean the game is too fast?" because they were playign a slower game at EA Tib. If that is a true story I can't help but laugh.

                        Again, 09 was TOO fast and too fast by accident.

                        Creating 'Sim-Style' Gameplay in Madden NFL 10

                        -- Overall Game Speed --

                        After all of above changes were made, we all really were enjoying the way the game started to feel. It was much more realistic...and gave off a much less 'frantic' feel (if that makes sense). We had one more big area to tackle though - and that was GLOBAL game speed. While playing Madden NFL 09, often times you may have felt like the result of the play was "scripted"...everything happened so fast that it was often very difficult to have an influence on the outcome of the play. On running plays, holes closed up immediately. On passing plays, defensive backs came out of nowhere to deflect a pass. For Madden NFL 10 we knew that we all preferred a slower game - one that felt more 'sim' and more realistic. But this is often a hotly contested topic. This poll proves that people never can seem to agree on game speed. So what did we do? Well first we decided to decrease the game speed by 5% overall. As subtle as that change to game speed may sound, it has drastically improved the overall control of the game. It is definitely easier to identify the hole created by the offensive line. Scanning the field as routes develop make it easier to keep passes out of harm's way. But we know that not everyone wants that style, so we also included a GAME SPEED SLIDER. Finally right?
                        How Game Speed Changes (+ a Slider) Affects Gameplay: Control +7, Realism +10, Customization +7
                        Please also note:
                        -- Pass Speed --
                        Pass speed was something that was actually quite a bit over the top in previous years...did you know a typical bullet pass exceeded 77 mph in our game?! In Madden NFL 09, not only did every QB throw a similar bullet pass in mph regardless of their rating, but also every QB also threw "mini-punts" instead of touch passes (even on short and intermediate routes) due to the high speed of the ball upon release. Realistically, we can all agree that Brett Favre in his prime probably had the most zip on his passes, and he's been clocked around 65-70 mph (from what I saw on ESPN). So we brought the max mph down to 70 mph (for a 99 Throw Power guy in perfect weather), and also brought the minimum speed down as well so we could scale down the 'curve' of how the ratings affect the pass. Now for Madden NFL 10 you will see much more obvious disparity between throw power ratings, and also you will see much more "touch" on passes on shorter routes instead of record-setting hang time on lobs (see below).

                        When you said "They even say college guys can't get used to the the speed of the NFL because it is so fast." you are correct. The problem is that NCAA should be played almost at Slow speed for Madden [the demo speed] and Madden should have been set to "normal speed" for the demo. Right now NCAA 10 is still at 09 speed. I really hope that after M10 comes out, M11 and NCAA 11 will share a lot more and make both games better as a result sharing what they learned from this year.

                        On that note, i would love to see Madden get "game plan," the defensive pre-snap play commit and man lock like NCAA while a lot of Madden improvements need to be in NCAA. You now, along with other improvements. NCAA should also be slower than Madden, not faster. NCAA's fast should be M10's Normal, NCAA's normal should be M10's slow. NCAA shouldn't have slow.

                            I hope they do not add the game plan and pre snap play commit feature from NCAA. Or if they were to put them in they would need to tune them a tone because I think they were poorly implemented in NCAA.

                            I do hope NCAA takes note and goes to a realistic speed like Madden next year, but right now I do not have a whole lot of faith in the NCAA developers.

                              IAN already explained the demo is at a slower speed, you can adjust the speed madden plays at, why make a thread about it.
