    Vince Young's bold predication

Backup Titans QB Vince Young is confident he'll be holding the Lombardi Trophy at some point

In remarks to Esquire, Young, lifted from the starting job in Week 1 last year, boldly predicted he'll regain the starting job and even achieve football immortality in Canton, Ohio.

"I don't know when I'll start again," he said to the magazine. "But I will be the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And I will be in the Hall of Fame."

Young was the third overall pick of the 2006 draft. He started 29 games for the Titans in his first three years, with an 18-11 record. But veteran Kerry Collins supplanted him last year, and led the team to an NFL-best 18-11 record.

"Kerry Collins and I are good friends," Young told Esquire. "He's been through this, too, so he knows. He's teaching me about stocks and investments."

Titans coach Jeff Fisher has said he wants Young to reclaim the starting job at some point. But he also made clear that Collins is his starter for this season.

Young paid tribute to his mentor, former Titans QB Steve McNair, who was killed July 4 in what police say was a murder-suicide orchestrated by his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi.

"It's hard to express in words how important Steve McNair is to me," Young told the magazine.

McNair is one of three black quarterbacks to have started a Super Bowl. Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb and Washington Doug Williams, who led the Redskins to a win in Super Bowl XXII, are the others.

Young said he is "in the best shape" of his life.

"I'm back to playing my game and not worrying about what everybody else thinks," he told the magazine. "That was my mistake: worrying too much about critics. I'm only twenty-six, man.

"If you think you can write me off, just watch."

You have to say one thing about this guy, he sure is one confident dude. Well, either that or he is absolutely delusional. First of all, you have to be playing to generate some kind of stats to be considered, not play second fiddle to a drunk QB. And the only way that Vince will ever win a Super Bowl is if he somehow got traded to the Patriots or the Steelers this season and took over the QB spot, which we all know will never happen. The only way that he'll get into the Hall is if he buys a ticket to Canton.

I doubt he'll make the hall, but a super bowl isn't out of the question. As an individual, you don't need to be great to win a super bowl. You just need to be a winner, and say what you want about Vince Young, but he's a winner.

Dude, Titans beat the eventual Superbowl champs last year heading into the playoffs.

With a few different bounces of the ball and whatnot...it wouldn't have been insane to see them having won it all last year.

Yes, all of his great 40% completion, multiple INT games that the Titans won 13-10 make him a "winner"

          *facepalm*

He might win a Super Bowl ring as a backup somewhere, but the only way he'll ever see Canton is if he buys a ticket like the rest of us.

Well he didn't say he would be the next starting black QB to win the superbowl. He must be hoping he's there this year holding the clip board and pretending to be paying attention.

Good luck with that hall of fame pipe dream, you quit on your team during a game, I don't think HOF members quit, usually they give all they can until their body no longer allows them too.

He got it done. It wasn't always pretty, but he was clutch in his time at Texas and Tennessee.

I don't have a problem with what he said, just think it's quite hilarious. No problem in him thinking it, but if anyone else said it outside of the Titans organization or Mack Brown, they deserve to get their head looked at.

He was GREAT at Texas, espc his junior year. Make no mistake about it. That Rose Bowl against USC is literally one of the greatest college football games ever, and it was a one-man show for the most part.

His early success in Tennessee was almost always in spite of him, except for that game against the Giants (he was brilliant).

From all indications, Vince is a headcase. Overly self-conscious and basically, a mama's boy. That screams immaturity. He probably should've went back to Texas for his senior year and he definitely got thrown into the fire too quickly with the Titans. That said, I think he has a chance to have a decent career in the long-run. Its going to take a real turnaround to even mention Canton and him in the same sentence though.
