The ONE AND ONLY thing that Ian and the Madden team should be working on right now, is figuring out how to get contracts, trade logic and the salary cap system into online franchise. This needs to happen, and happen fast, as most madden players (like my friends and I) will be looking to start their online franchise soon after release!

Without the salary cap and player contracts, etc... online franchise is essentially just the same thing as NCAA's online dynasty mode, where the draft is like recruiting, and then you just hold on to the players you get until they retire (or graduate in NCAA)... with no cap or contracts, there's no smooth way to handle the rosters, and with the CPU teams not dipping into free agency, online franchises with a small number of owners won't have free agency at all anyways.

This is the ONLY thing Ian and Co. should be working on. Getting that done within the next few weeks will undeniably make Madden 10 the best football video ever made. Period. Until then, it's only a pretty band-aid, waiting to wear-out.

LOL bro right now this is least of Ian concerns right now. There is a lot things that is needing patch for right now. I doubt Ian is worried bout the online part right this momet. Online is fine the way it is right now.

Yeah, go take a look at the glitches thread. I highly doubt even 20% of the madden population will be playing online franchise. Not saying online franchise isn't important, but I find gameplay issues and offline franchise needing more attention.

Am I saying it shouldnt be added? No, but the actual game needs to play better before online does.

Fix the glitches and problems with the game itself, then worry about online

Work on building the entire game engine , fix the challenge system , kill that over the top catching animation , fix procedural awareness.I got players making catches not even looking at the ball...again

I agree with you, because I will be playing my own offline franchise, but I will also be joining a few with a couple of my boys and it would be nice to have it work the same way as an offline franchise.

I also think some of the CPU logic is very stupid period. Bronco's released Kyle Orton and the Redskins released Jason Campbell into the free agency pool. I let a couple of days go and they both were resigned to their exact same teams. Now yes its smart on the CPU's behalf if they resigned these players for cheaper, BUT... How many players get released from their teams and resign with them?

i think online franchise tweaks will get done but that shouldnt be the focus. the dev team should focus on the fundamentals that are still severely lacking. trench play in madden is just simply horrible. yes there are some horrible lineman in the nfl but there is no way u will ever see a lineman just spin in place or run 5 yards downfield past two players to block a safety that probaly wouldnt make the tackle anyways

This thread is pure evidence that anyone who goes all nerd rage on the dev team because their precious feature or bug isn't being addressed needs to chill out and understand that not everyone agrees with you.

Sorry OP, but I doubt that's going to get fixed in this year's Madden. First they're going to fix bugs and balance the gameplay. They won't add features until next year probably. Also, remember most people don't play online franchises, so it won't affect most of us.

Here's how it will play out:

1. Dev team has been working on the bugs and glitches that they knew about in the last month or two.

2. There will be an update for said bugs and glitches within the first week or two of Madden 10 being released.

3. After that, most of the dev team will be on vacation. A few poor saps will be left behind to continue to clean up more bugs and glitches that have been found, or ones that didn't get properly fixed in the first update.

4. After two weeks of tanning themselves on a beach somewhere, and doing their best to not read any angry emails or forum posts, they will return to EA and start working on Madden 11. At which point, they will tell you that unfortunately they don't have time to fix the missing features in online franchise mode, because they are busy working on Madden 11.

5. The second update will come months after the first, and many people will get their hopes up, believing that they will be adding things that they didn't have time to add when the game launched. Those people will be upset once again, because this update will only fix some minor bugs and glitches.

5. Fast forward to June 2010, when an EA developer mentions in a blog all the features that should be in Madden 11, but won't be because they just ran out of time......

and the cycle repeats itself.

EA's new slogan: If it's in the game, maybe next year it will be in the game!

Yeah those things aren't in online franchise right now, however the tools are there for league GMs to manage it. My online franchise has a salary cap, has trading with the CPU, has off-season player movement. Is it perfect? No but the point is we can at least manage.
