Madden Midnight Release Stories

Not sure if this is in the right place if not mods got ahead and close.

I would like to know if anything interesting happened in the area of where you got your copy while you waited.

Here is my story:

First of all, I live in probably the most crooked town ever with a cycle of new young policemen that are trying to establish themselves in our city. Well me and a guy probably in his late 50's were sitting outside the store waiting (it was just me and him because college football is 100X more popular in our area). Well me and him were talking and everything when this Barney Five wannabe for the city drives up and asks what we're doing and he doesn't believe us when we tell him. So he asks for our ID's and i show him mine and the older guy refuses. He slaps the cuffs on the guy and is doing his rights or whatever and the older guy asks him to check his wallet in his back pocket. The officer does so and it turns out he is the head cheese for the county. I was laughing so hard at that kid apologizing and asking the man not to report him.

Bottom line i figured something else may have happened somewhere else so i was curious.

I walked in and out -- although everytime I go to gamestop they badger me about doing some online survey and asking me if I've pre-ordered every-game-under-the-sun -- it's annoying.

I didn't even goto a midnight release and probably won't get Madden for a while. College football is king around here and NCAA is the more popular game.

most places arent doing midnight releases. It means paying the employees and its not worth it.

I don't even see what the point of pre-ordering is anymore these days. I had reserved a copy at Best Buy which was supposed to be doing a midnight release, but when I pulled up they had a sign saying they wouldn't be doing it.

So I went to Wal-Mart and picked it up with no hassles. No lines.

Went to Walmart, which apparently isn't open 24 hours, yet they kept the entire store open and lit up so people could get Madden. I ended up going around 12:30am since the web says this particular location is open 24 hours so I figured there was no rush. Luckily I just made it in, me and one other guy were the stragglers.

It was kinda funny too, there was an escort who brought us into the store and walked with us the CS desk near the front of the store. They didn't want people wandering around the rest of the store. Understandable but still funny, I felt like I was going to get something really rare/expensive lol, being watched by security every step of the way.

Unlike most on this forum, I buy madden from Blockbuster because their trade in rates are MUCH better than gamestop. I traded in Madden 09 for 20 bucks a few months ago. About 3 weeks ago, I asked if they would have a midnight release; they said yes. My ps3 broke about a week ago and is due back Monday I only got to play the madden demo twice.
So a few hours ago (August 13th, 11:55), I parked in the parking lot of BlockBuster only to find their doors locked. Thinking the employee was late, I waited about 10 minutes and nobody showed. Even though I don't have a ps3 right now, I would have liked to have the game at my house and ready to go.

Probably the worst madden midnight release story.

I had plans with my friend to pick it up at midnight and play all night because we were so amped up. Then my ps3 broke. Then the midnight release didn't even occur after all. Bad luck I guess.
Or my ps3 hates madden.

How long do you think a midnight release would take if there are like 2 or 3 other gamestops in like a 5 mile radius?

Just because it is 3 Gamestops in one area don't automatically mean ALL 3 are doing a midnight release. I didn't even bother going to a midnight release because where I live, in a 5 mile area there is 4 Gamestops, Best Buy, Walmart, Kmart, Meijers, Costco, Sears, Toys R Us, 2 Radio Shacks and a Game Crazy.

So I know there will be many copies left for me to get in the afternoon.
