It's funny because the Madden 10 Playbooks thing you can download from here showing all the playbooks includes these, yet they're not in the game as far as I can see.

Where's the general playbooks?
When I go to change playbooks and audibles there's only 32 options for O and D. There's none of the general ones that have always been in the game. IE - Balanced O, 3-4 D, Balanced D, etc...

Re: Where's the general playbooks?
Ok, I see when I go to play a game those playbooks are there, but I can't set custom audibles for them.
Also I went into my profile and saved custom audibles for Arizona offense playbook. Then loaded up my Bengals franchise and went into the audible section and a message pops up saying "Your active team not the same as your favorite team. Switching your favorite team to the Bengals will cause all custom audibles for the Cardinals to be deleted. Do you want to set your favorite team to the Bengals?"
I choose No because I don't want my audibles to be deleted, and when I choose No it just takes me back to the franchise hub. So apparently you can't just change your audibles in franchise.
The way the playbooks and audible system are set up this year is screwy and more complicated. It was very simple in 09. You could pick any playbook including generics and it would automatically carry over into franchise and be preset whenever you play a game. Even when I go into a game my playbooks are still at default Cinci O and D despite changing them in my profile to Arizona.
What's the deal? The way this is now I'll have to manually set up audibles before each game -

Re: Where's the general playbooks?
So LastEmp...you are saying that basically we have to set up our audibles seperatly if we are going to use a different team in franchise mode than that which is out favorite team? Example...My fav team in New Orleans. But i have played franchise with them since Madden 2000 and want to mix it up a little. So...I am thinking about rolling with the 49ers. Now...I would have to setup New Orleans plays for quick play etc...and then in franchise mode set it up all over again for the 9ers and then save profile? Wow, this is just confusing and too much honestly. lolComment

Re: Where's the general playbooks?
When you go to play a game you can choose w/e playbook you want for O and D, but I also just realized if you set custom audibles for any team, it wont let you select a different team for the opposite side of the ball. I can't set audibles for Bengals offense and Pittsburghs defense for example. I can choose them in a game, but I don't like having to manually set audibles before each game. This is minor, but very annoyingComment
