This is all fine and good from an overall standpoint but I'm talking about broadcast presentation features in my original post. Guess I should've clarified that. There's no doubt the atmosphere in 10 is top-notch. They just need some major improvements to the amount of repeated cutscenes, bare-bones replays and banners and an overall lack of a broadcast feel apart from the commentary.

Re: NHL 2K10 Gameplay Videos (IGN)
FIFA - par excellence, none better, absolutely sensational.
The Show - Top notch.
NHL 08 - Excellent
Tiger Woods 08 PC - Terrific
NFL 2K5 - Classic
Those are the sports games I play. All have great all-round audio. So no, I'm never disappointed, except when I watch and listen to these NHL 2K10 videos.Comment

I hardly consider herky jerky real time celebrations and a robotically delivered intermission report anything to be overly excited about personally. This is all fine and good from an overall standpoint but I'm talking about broadcast presentation features in my original post. Re: NHL 2K10 Gameplay Videos (IGN)
Yeah, the transition between animations definitely looks jerky. I hope it's been smoothed out in the final build.
I think both games can have better celebrations.
In a real game, after a player scores they'll continue to cost by the net and then their teammates join them in a big 5-man group snuggle fest.
In EA's game the player always stops on a dime after scoring regardless if they were screaming in on a breakaway.
In 2K's game they break into a goal scoring celebration animation immediately after scoring.
If you play a game of NHL2004, you'll see that players will actually continue to skate after scoring while putting their hands in the air. And then their teammates mob them.
Why on earth this was change for the EA series is beyond me.
I like 2K's real time celebrations but like RealmK stated, the transition needs to be more fluid.Comment

Re: NHL 2K10 Gameplay Videos (IGN)
Of course, I didn't say I was happy about celebrations or commentary. Realm, you've been around long enough to know that while I appreciated the myriad of "little things" last year, I'm no blind fanboy of this series by any means. I enjoy EA's game but it's been getting very stale in my opinion and that's why I leaned toward 2K9 last year for a while. Now, this year may change that, who knows. But I think there's an element of personality in 2K's title, through all the ugliness, that EA doesn't have.
Like I said, this year may be different. I don't show my face much on the EA forums but I'm putting my 60 dollars down this year again for the game, there's no question about it. Here there's a lot more interesting conversations because we don't quite know the direction of the game and there's a lot to speculate, plus there's a good level of mature discussion on this board that can't really be found in the NBA or NFL forums.
There's a lot of elements of last year's title that I felt were excellent ideas but were executed horribly...check my post in the "Developers Are Listening" thread. I loved the idea of playoff beards and an interactive Cup celebration but both features were embarrassing. So no, I'm not giving them a pat on the back here. 2K's been great for little details but the big details haven't been given enough TLC, whereas with EA, it's the other way around (although they've been VERY guilty of messing up big features in NCAA the past two years).
Long story short Realm, I agree. The game still looks sloppy in places but I won't make any major assessments until I play the game. That may just be my view of things but that's how I'm doing it...and doing the same with NHL 10 as well.Last edited by CarryTheWeight; 08-14-2009, 03:19 PM.Owner of URWL CAW WRESTLING: http://www.rantboard.net/Comment

Ha-ha! That's exactly how I look at it and what I'm trying to keep in mind. I couldn't have put it any better.
And moreso now that it's been made clear we can edit CPU strategy and behavior via strategy edits and sliders.

It's all good brother, I actually enjoy having discussions with you because you're able to be inpartial and see both sides. I actually think you make some very valid points as well.Of course, I didn't say I was happy about celebrations or commentary. Really over all it seems 2k10 will make some very big strides this year to get back on track but still won't quite have that level of polish to push it over the top. Which is something I can deal with without much fuss pending the changes, fixes, and additions actually work as intended.Comment

Re: NHL 2K10 Gameplay Videos (IGN)
I agree personality is a good way to describe 2k hockey. I always felt that way about it, but with the editing you can do this year it should be even better. Behavior strategy is something I am looking forward to along with the GM's causing teams to behave like they normally would.Originally posted by jim416You are the 2k Police. :)Comment
