Are you saying that even with putting men in a zone to cover the flats or spying or highlighting the HB leads to big positive yards every single time?
Or are you saying that not covering these areas leaves you open?Comment

On man coverage, when there's a guy assigned to the RB who runs into the flat, the coverage guy is at least 10 yards away. I think the problem isn't really that the flats are open -- they're often open in real football. It's that the pursuit is so terrible that a player with space can waltz forward for 15 yards when he should have gotten 5.Comment

Unfortunately i think a house rule has to be implemented here.
As the above poster mentioned flats are always open and the coverage is always about 10yds offComment

This is absolutely ruining the game for me. Normally I would use the flats to open up the rest of the game, but now that I'm realizing it's just BROKEN because of terrible coverage by the CPU, I feel like I'm cheating doing what I would normally do.
So I either impose a house rule on myself...which is idiotic...or I march down the field repeatedly throwing 12+ balls a game to Owen Daniels and Steve Slaton, while the CPU defense does NOTHING to adjust.

Definitely not the first Madden game you could just toss to the flats the whole game just about whenever you needed a first down. This has happened in a few of their releases.Go Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings, Wolverines!Comment

It may seem idiotic but it has been necessary in every football game ever made. I doubt there has been a single football game made since Tecmo Bowl that didn't have a money play.
In fact, I've never played a basketball game I didn't dunk 30 times a game, a baseball game I didn't hit a ton of home-runs a game (Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball SNES excluded), a hockey game I couldn't 1 time 4 goals a game, or a football game where I couldn't exploit a route or a play to move the ball. Limit yourself and enjoy the game I say because nothing is perfect.Comment

What level are u playing on I play all madden the CPU adjusts in crucial moments fir example I'm thr raiders against the skins I run the two back shotgun play action and hit Dmac in the the flats wide open he runs down the sideline spins off landry and takes it to the hizzy! In the third qtr I run the same play 20 yd pick up but this time landry doesn't fall fir the spin a d stick Dmac before he does a 180 fourth qtr maybe I tried the well to many times I'm just passed the fifty and need five yards on fourth down mind u I haven't run the play since the 20 yd gain I run it again walker is jammed up pretty good by Carlos Rogers I figure I can hit Dmac in the flats and move the chains as I saw in replay the CPU is actually in cover 2 and c. Rogers releases walker and makes the play after a two yd gainComment
