Help Stopping Passes to the Flats?

Hi, I tried using the search function, but didnt really come up with anything. I apologize if this has been covered.

Anyone have some suggestions for plays that are good at taking away the flats? Im usually the Bears so I have the 4-3, 46, nickel etc...

How about some adjustments I could make at the line to help cover the flats? They're killing me online. Thanks!

I don't know about on-line but offline it seems man coverage is the way to go. Damn zone coverage leaves way to many open holes in the field and this damn wide open running back or fullback is killing me. It seems like nobody picks up the wide open running back and he thus gets huge gains.

      This needs to be patched...

What i found to help a little bit is running cover 2.. This keeps the CB home to atleast tackle him for a 4-5 yard gain. Also running packages where your safties cover the backs instead of slower linebackers. I use a lot of 3-5 nickle cover one.

If you have the time, set different members to a one man audible and put them in the flat.

what positions would you reccomend to make the one man audible with?

Also, what does the hook-flat audible do exactly?

There is nothing hard about stopping flat routes

Take OLB/DE and put them in the flat zones, put them in contains, Spotlight the RB, OR you can manually control the MLB/DE and when you see the RB break one way follow him

I've been doing this since Madden 05. If you manually cover them they will never be open. Problem solved.

The cpu flats passes are killers. Since there is minimal pass rush the QB has all day and as a last resort throws to the flats for a 20+ yard game. Unless you play man D and control an OLB, it will be tough to stop the flats

Exactly - if I realize my opponents like the flat routes I adjust and take them out the game

Man coverage or flats zones along with spotlighting the RB have done just fine for me. I recently played the 49ers with Frank Gore and shut him down in the flats/shut the entire team out with the measly Texans defense. I locked the flats down and he couldn't do a thing.

There's issues playing the CPU regarding the flats, but in MAN vs. MAN games there should be no issues.

Not really related but im having trouble for some reason on even all pro to stop teams in the pass game with the jaguars it doesnt matter what i pick. Just wondering if anyone else has used the jags and is it this tuff for you i got torched 21-52 vs the cardinals lol.

The CPU needs a lot of help stopping passes to the flats.

The cpu plays dumb as hell. They all out blitz on 3rd or 4th down on a consistent basis. It's ridiculously stupid.

Yea that theory works when there is only one back. But a lot of teams have a decent back up, and are running dual rbs and hitting on of them. You can only cover one so you rely on the computer to make a play. And it just doesn't happen often enough. EA needs to fix this!

base defense with cover two. Make sure the corners have the flats zone coverage, when the back catches the pass quickly switch to the corner and tackle the back right after he catches it so he can't break the tackle. This may not prevent the pass being caught but it should keep it under 3 yards.
