Sullen Star: Restoring the Luster [Madden 10]

America's Team hasn't won a playoff game in 13 years, and Jerry Jones has gotten desperate. Desperate for another championship, desperate to hold the Lombardi trophy one more time.

Enter Rock Sampson. Sampson has taken over the role of Chief of Football Operations, with the promise of leading the Cowboys back to the promise land.

    House Rules
    • Will not go after every top free agent
    • Will not have more than one first round pick in any draft
    • Will play every game, besides preseason
    • Will try to build through the draft, with real draft classes
    • Will play with myskill, my toughest challenge

Thanks Man, I was a huge Cowboys fan growing up in the days of Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman, and so on...so besides my Jets they're right up there.

                    Boys Split Preseason

Beat Oakland 20-3, Lost to Tennessee 27-10, Beat San Fran 24-14, Lost to Minnesota 17-6. That was our up and down preseason. I don't much care for preseason, so the real reports wont start until the regular season.

Roy Williams and Marvin Harrison both had productive preseasons, with Harrison hauling in 3 touchdowns and Williams leading the team with 15 catches. Marion Barber was a beast with 307 yards on 47 carries in the preseason as well. Quarterback play was subpar, with all quartertbacks throwing more picks then TDs.

                      Week 1 @ Tampa Bay

Both defenses came to play, dominating in the early going, exchanging turnovers, but it was the Cowboy defense that would win the day for Dallas. Byron Leftwich was picked off four times, and the Cowboys offense benefited from stellar field position all afternoon.

In victory Tony Romo struggled, throwing two picks, but helped lead Dallas to a season opening victory. Romo was 15 of 23 for 254 yards with 2 touchdowns to go along with those two interceptions, but it was the return game that nearly blew it for Dallas.

Marion Barber fumbled, leading to a Tampa field goal. On the ensuing kickoff Felix Jones fumbled, but the defense stepped up and stopped Tampa in their tracks, preserving the victory. The nine combined turnovers was the highest in Cowboy history.

Barber had a tough time running, carrying 31 times for 99 yards and a touchdown. Derrick Ward fared no better for Tampa Bay, carrying 19 times for just 48 yards. Both defensive lines dominated the point of attack, making both offenses one dimensional for big portions of the game.

The story of the game was Josh Freeman, who replaced an injured Byron Leftwich in the 4th quarter. Freeman completed 6 of 8 75 yards, but narrowly missed on a 4th and 4 to the end zone late in the game.

Harrison can play still, and it's only a one year deal. He'll really help the young guys develop.

Why did you sign Harrison and Wahle when you said you weren't gonna sign the top FA?

I'm not going out and signing all the top free agents, but if I can get some help I'm not going to take some schlubs. If I need depth, I'll pick up lower rated guys.
