Feels quite a bit different in areas while playing. The board play is a very nice addition. The passing is completely different on the harder difficulties this year, as it will go where you aim it and not directly to a players tape. on the hardest settign I could literally not clear my zone at first because of the passing. You are right though, many many aspects (especially presentation) are essentially the same.

Which isn't necessarly a bad thing. They took what was already a great product and greatly improved/tweaked specific areas of gameplay. Something I wish the guys at Madden/NCAA would learn from instead of adding new game modes or gimmicky features.

I hope this is just because its on pro mode but because its been in past NHL games it might be in all modes.

Check out 3:49 - Sidney Crosby takes a slapshot and Holstrom is standing right beside him the whole time. Crosby should have been check or had the puck knocked away before he even got half way through is wind up.

Alot of the changes are subtle in nature, things like batting at loose pucks, hits being tougher to line up to crush a guy. AI teammates moving more and helping you out more. The board play etc. Graphically and presentation wise (aside from some new cut scenes and new bits of commentary) aren't all that different. The game plays a far better game of realistic hockey this year especially on the hardcore style setting.

Yeah when crosby scored i believe I was playing on pro mode. Most of those detroit goals came with it ramped up to superstar. you can see them really move the puck around before one of the goals.

Yeah this has been in all the next gen games, the temprorary force field of protection on slapshots. The only real way I've found around it is increasing the aggression, shot blocking or pock effectiveness sliders. That makes it so you have to get the shot off quick and vice versa.

The game is much smoother and the animations are much improved. I agree that anything you see is subtle but it is noticeable enough to where the improvements are seen. The puck physics and tipped pucks are sweet looking. Also, getting tripped and the ability to shoot from your knees is a sweet addition.

I also think that the jerseys, especially the Wings, look much sharper and some of the faces are much better looking....Cannot wait til the 15th....

                        At 5:00 Crosby=Turtle. Very Nice!!

I notice during pre-game it said Crosby was hurt and needed more attention, yet he played anyways. Will a player's skills suffer if he plays hurt?

Not only skill but most definitely the chance of more serious and long lasting injury (i.e. out for the series). You are given the choice to either play the player or sit them.

That's a cool addition. Especially come playoff time when guys play through injuries.

The Crosby and Franzen goals looked like they were scored from about the same spot and beat the goalie the same way. It seems to me the goalies are coming out and challenging too far and seem to lose postion as a result. The next Detroit goal after Franzens seemed to kind of prove that as Fluery made the initial save, but was too far out to possibly stop the player there for the rebound.
