Why is Nnamdi Asomugha a 99!?!?!

    Really...?

Better than Champ Bailey (96) and Asante Samuel (95)?

    Can't be serious with this...

You must not know a lot about football if you are surprised. Aso could probably cover Jerry Rice by himself. Maybe.

        Have you watched him?

He is unmatched, and well deserving of a 99.

Nnamdi Asomugha had the single best season a cornerback ever had in NFL history last year.

This is a joke right? He's the best corner in the league. He might just be the best corner since Prime Time. (Thats Deion Sanders for those that don't know)Lol.

              I don't think Nnamdi should be a 99.

              He should be a 100.

Poster must not watch much NFL football... Despite our horrible performance Yesterday Nnamdi did superb in the 2 quarters he played. they only threw at him twice: one was completed because it was the tight end Jeremy Shockey I couldn't really tell what went wrong or if that was even his man.

the other pass attempt was intended on a zone coverage and nnamdi timed the tackle perfectly and knocked the ball out.

Teams dont even look at the reciever Asomugha is covering. Thats how good he is. He is probably the best player in the NFL IMO.
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

Champ Bailey is great.... But Nnamdi is a little bit more skilled in zone coverages. He can read two receivers at the same time and guess if either of them is coming into his zone. And by two, I DO NOT MEAN HE CAN READ THE WIDE RECIEVER ON ONE END AAAN THE WR ON THE OTHER. I mean that he is very good at reading both the slot receiver and the receiver on his side at the same time and positioning himself in the area that he thinks either receiver will end up.
It's all about the Chargers, the Lakers, and the............*falls asleep*

Because he is far better than anyone else at his position and is probably the pound for pound best player in the NFL. He's going down as one of the the top 3 greatest corners of all time(if we go by his prime years). Book it.

He's elite playing a zone(probably a top 3 zone corner, if not the best zone corner) and is THE premier man corner of his time, and, with his current skillset, it may be safe to say that at the height of his career(now) he may be the best and most skilled man coverage player of all time.

He does everything a corner needs to do at an elite level(top 5 in the league) and is, in most cases, the gold standard(ie, number one).

Too bad he'll probably be retired before the Raiders even sniff the playoffs again.

From a guy who ranked all the cornerbacks last season:

                          1. Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland Raiders
                          Season Totals: 29 attempts, 4.97 YPA, 62.07 Forced INC%, 0 TDs, 1 INT

My two cents: Was this the best season every for a CB? Asomugha was only thrown at 29 times the entire season and allowed just 9 receptions. He allowed two catches (both to Tony Gonzalez) over an eight game span in the middle of the season. He allowed 144 yards receiving for the season, and 46 of those came on one play against the Chargers where he misjudged an underthrown pass to Vincent Jackson. If a CB has had a better season than this, I’d like to see the numbers.

He gave up 9 catches all year. NINE. He's unlikely to lead the league is interceptions, or even come close (last year he was tied for 112th in the league), simply because QBs don't even bother to throw at him. You can't intercept balls that are thrown to the other side of the field.

If anyone in the game is deserving of a 100 rating, it's Asomugha.

Yet there's no tangible evidence to even back up those numbers..

He only had 40 tkl in 15 games while Champ had 44 in just 9 games. Take that!
