Running The Ball Non-Existent for Me

When I first got the game, I played as the Lions in my Franchise. I sucked running the ball, but I figured "Oh well, that's pretty realistic - it's the Lions for gods sake". But now, a couple weeks later, I've tried out many different teams, and still can't run for the life of me. No matter what back I am.

If I try and pound it up the middle, the DT's collapse on me right away, or a LB bull rushes in to get me for a loss. In the rare instance there's actually a hole, a defensive lineman will turn around, clip me at the ankles and minimize my gain. If I try running outside, usually a linebacker skates to the outside and gets me for a loss or a minimum gain. I rarely have any semi-long gains on the ground, period.

I mean, I've tried using the right stick O-Line adjustments, and it just doesn't make a difference. Still gaining about 40-50 yards a game on the ground, max. It's gotten to the point where it feels almost worthless even running the ball once. Can someone give me some tips, or point me to some slider adjustments that will solve this problem? Thank you.

Most definitely should lower the Rush Reaction slider and Block Shedding slider. My reaction is set at 25, and Block Shedding is at 5. Give them a try.

Re: Running The Ball Non-Existent for Me

Running is definitely harder this year but I like it. In my really good games, I'm averaging 5 YPC. In games against good rush defenses, I might average 2-3 YPC (pretty realistic IMO). I sucked at first and could not run the ball, but what I figured out is that you have to really use the pass to set up the run (like in real life). I think the game is very realistic in the fact that you can't do power tosses and have your back outrun everyone. This is not realistic in real life so it's nearly impossible in the game.

Defenses are fast and it takes some logic to run the ball effectively. Watch fatigue levels as well, but the biggest advice I have is to set up your running plays and use them effectively.

Perhaps that's not much help, but it worked for me...

I had a hell of a time tryna run with them too. Kevin Smith didnt break a tackle to save his life. When im the Falcons I average 200 yards a game rushing(ALL-PRO) Ive had a lil success when I drafted a running back doing outside runs tho. Pitch,Toss Crack, etc......

Thats funny I thought it was harder to run last year. This year is very realistic IMO! Need the right sliders.

Really? Hmmm, difference of opinion I guess... I thought running the ball last year was fairly easy.

I run with the Hawks and at best, I gain about 150 yards rushing in the good games, and maybe 75 in the rough ones. Last year I could eclipse 200 yards per game with ease, even with a weak running team like the Hawks.

Who knows... I do think it's very realistic though.

Ended my first season with McFadden rushing for around 1400 with a 4ypc avg.

dammm. That would make running wayyyy to easy

default all madden is rather easy

I play on All-Madden and bump up the run blocking slider to 45. It seems to do the trick. I either run in the middle in a 4 WR set or use I-Formation and run to the outside after I motion my fullback to the side I'm running to. I'm consistenly getting 100-200 rushing yards every game.
Playing Madden for what it is, not what it used to be.
If you continue seeking a Madden game with all of the options it had on XBox, you will be disappointed. If you accept that the next-gen version of Madden is a downgrade in every area except graphics, then you will find a true gaming experience.

I'm on all pro and I have run block set at 74. I suck, so I gotta run 20+ times to break a hundred which I like.

I had a fantasy draft and I had Jones-Drew and Kevin Smith, and still couldn't get past five yards!

This may, or may not be directed at you.

When running between the tackles dont use turbo. Use it when you need to burst away into a hole downfield, not at the line (unless its a gaping hole)

Running is about patience more than speed. Not to mention, its fairly realistic. If RB's in real life just tried to go full speed (turbo) at all times, it's not going to work out too well.

Use turbo only when it's there.

PM me your secrets, bro! I'm rolling with the Raiders in OF, and can't get that ground game going. If it weren't for an 82 yard run, McFadden would be averaging like 2.5 YPC.

Thanks for some the tips guys, I'll try and put them to use. Going to especially be hard to not use turbo, I'm so used to always using it no matter what.
