Yeah there is a bit of player differentation which I hope to see more of with that player attribute slider maxed out. Its much easier to deke with guys like Crosby or Hossa and retain the puck vs someone like Hudler who if you try and deke too quickly you're more apt for the puck to roll off your stick. Much better than how its been the last couple years imo.

Re: NHL 10 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360 & PS3)
I haven't had a powerplay play in sooooo many games now. Arrghh come on sliders!
One thing I reckon does make a difference is the fighting. Fighting seems to give some momentum and can add to gameplay opportunities...however, I do agree that mapping the fight option to the boardpin button can be frustrating. I try to use the brawlers to set the tone but I get called for holding penalties that don't lead to a fight!?!?
It is frustrating me that the cpu never gets called for a penalty either. I try and rough it it for a fight and get a bad deal...hmmm. I hope this can be addressed somehow in the retail game.
I tell you what, if you do not use boardplay, nhl 10 will seem like 09, I love sending the puck into the oppositions zone to scrap it out but timing is crucial otherwise the cpu walk away with the puck.
One last thing I am not to happy with is when the goalie goes behind his net to control the puck and the pass sensitivity all too often sends a soft pass behind the net and the cpu can be all over it. The goalie goes for the puck automatically and can be under some close attention and when he passes a goofy soft pass it just seems unfair. The pass sensitivity thing needs work.
When I get the game I am jacking up cpu pass ineffectiveness and cpu penalties and hopefully there may be a difference. At the minute without sliders the pass sensitivity only seems to disadvantage the human. We are the music makers...Comment

I dont know what level you play on but I have seen plenty of PP all in realistic fashion including a few 5 min PP ?
To draw PP you gotta frustrate the cpu not everything is shoot or breakaways , rotate and cycle the biscuit , skill / talent tends to draw more just like in the NHL .
Well back to gameplay I started trying different things my latest was rushing Lebda on the attack and it was awesome how the cpu reacted like saying your kidding and just attacked him for a easy turnover .
Im really liking the logic and trying to breakdown Det when your on the PP is a challenge but so lifelike.
I was also impressed when 5 or 6 guys all went for the puck on the boards by the blueline it ended quickly but it was very natural .
Nothing feels cheap or scripted in this demo which I really admire in a sports gameLast edited by dorismary; 09-02-2009, 08:57 AM.Comment

on all-star / hardcore i've actually had a few moments where i said, "damn, what is up with all these penalties!"
don't know what the default is on that, but it appears we won't be complaining about that this year (well, some will... - ha!).STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

I can't stress how annoying it is when someone says this game isn't different.
Its very telling of the poster, IMO.Comment

Sad. This is an impressions thread. It's not your business whether someone else feels the demo plays no different than last year's game. Seriously, are you 9 years old? Did somebody hurt your feelings? Did they say something "nasty" about your favorite game? Jesus...Comment

The only thing telling here bub is that you're now trolling in the demo impressions. Go play your demo you love so much, goodbye.Comment

You're right, actually. My bad everyone, just frustrated with the opinions of others sometimes when they seem short-sighted and grossly innaccurate.
Apologies.

How could someone's opinion be considered inaccurate? It's a personal opinion. It's entirely subjective. You're taking the position there's a right and a wrong here when there is none.Comment

It might not be the case with you "Only" but to me the presentation is the same the amintions are the same, but that is not a bad thing. But it does feel like 09 with some changes here and there to make it more soild. Which is a good thing.Comment

personally, i've played the demo enough...i'm now going to set it aside. i'm looking forward to the actual release so i see no reason to wear the demo out. i'm guessing some things will be tightened up a bit and it's obvious by some of the banter here that we've pretty much worn out this thread...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Oh man...here we go.
Hey, I completely understand what an opinion is and all the stupid little protections that go with waving the 'its just my opinion' flag, okay???
But...
Ignorant people let people roll a bunch of BS of the end of their tongues while giving way to the 'opinion protection act'.
Opinion or not, BS is BS.
For example in the case of which we speak--comparing NHL 09 to NHL 10--it is absolutely rediculous to say the games are nearly the same even if IT IS built on the same engine with improvements and tweaks made to it...like nearly every sports game OUT THERE.
I'm not going to sit here and list why the game is different. Its tiresome and repetitive...
but I will sit here and say it baffles the living s*** out of me when someone can't see the glaring differences in the game this year.
Just the offence generated from the point, the boardplay, and the goal variety combined with the teammate AI which actual moves in effort to create offense have changed the game dramatically.
To deny that fact is to also claim incompetency with a smile.Comment

Re: NHL 10 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360 & PS3)
While I agree some don't do all that, they look at the graphics and presentation to make their view. So in that case it is the same game. If you are a gameplay person then that will not effect you, but if you are a presentation and graphic guy it will effect you. So in the end it is 2 opinions. So your little rant is off as usual. Let people feel free to knock the game and they will let you praise the game. In the end it is still all OPINION!Oh man...here we go.
