Is Sunday Ticket even worth it anymore?

I used buy Sunday Ticket, but I just don't see the point anymore. The one caveat is if your team is out of market. I would pony up to watch the Bears if I lived in a different market.

However assuming you have a favorite or home team that you have to watch every minute of every game, you have a limited amount of games to really watch.

If your team plays the early game, you have many weeks where there's 4 games going on....FOUR. Of those four one will be televised in my market most likely anyway. So I miss the Raider game....do I care?

You're not gonna miss the big games most likely. You have Sunday Night game, Monday night game, then Thursday Night game, then at the end of the season you have Saturday games. These are all national games.

New this year if you have NFL network is the new RedZone broadcast. What this shows you is when every team is in the red zone, Live in HD. And it's free.

So really I just dont' see the point of dropping $300 on catching 3 games I probably won't care about, but can still see most of the live scoring anyway.

This made sense 10 years ago, but not so much now.

It works for what me and my family use it for. We like watching Jacksonville, Dallas, Washington, and apparently now Minnesota and Philadelphia (aunt loves Favre, and we're all rooting for Vick).

It's most worth it for J-ville because they are never on locally in SW VA.

So yeah, it's nice to be able to have all of those games, whereas before Sunday Ticket, we'd see the Washington game, and some late west coast game that we didn't care about.

It'd be worth it for me. I live in Florida now, just moved a couple months ago. So I won't be getting Colts games every Sunday anymore. But yea if you live in the same market as your favorite team, and you can watch them locally every Sunday anyways, then there's really no point in the Sunday Ticket.

Re: Is Sunday Ticket even worth it anymore?

This will be my first year without it in since 2005.

I am dreading having to go to bars to see the Broncos (especially when the Steelers are playing).

As you eluded to, since my team is out of market, it probably made sense for me, and I doubt I would have ever made the switch to dtv had it not been the case.

As much as I will miss watching the Broncos from my own chair, I will miss the Red Zone channel equally, when the Broncos weren't on, I just left it on and felt like I didn't miss anything.

The NFL Network will have a new channel that seems to be the same as the Red Zone channel. We'll see how it goes this year.

Still love my Sunday Ticket btw.

Yea I saw that, my guess is the major difference will be that the NFL Networks channel will show just highlights whereas dtv's version shows games live.

While i'm up in Oregon, I don't wanna be stuck watching the crappy nfc west all season. So being able to watch all 16 baltimore games this year makes the sunday ticket well worth it for me.

Nope, the new Red Zone is live.

"There's no better way to kick off the 2009 NFL football season than by changing the way America watches football, and DISH Network is pleased to offer consumers an opportunity to catch every touchdown and the biggest plays as they happen."

that says Dish network, not the NFL Network, if you have directv, you wont have dish network as well.

as for your origional post, if I lived in tennessee I wouldnt get directv, you are right with your observation, thers really no point if you live in your teams market,

Re: Is Sunday Ticket even worth it anymore?

Okay, I read up on it a little bit more and as Jistic said, it will be live look-ins and from what I can tell is identical to dtv's.

The catch is (not surprisingly) that you have to order it, it appears to be a seperate channel. Comcast is an option, so it looks as though I could order it,

But is it worth it seeing that I will likely be at a bar to catch the Broncos?

I guess I don't see a lot of people paying for this as a stand alone channel.

Here's a video in case anyone is interested:

NFL RedZone brings you every touchdown from every game, every Sunday afternoon during the regular season and acts as the perfect fantasy football companion.

Any time a team is in the red zone, they show the game live. Its not really for NFL team fans, its for fantasy players who want to watch everything. I haven't watched it once, I just change the channel to the game I want to watch.

I have had sunday ticket for 4 years because i love football but absolutley hate my home team Rams. But im starting to hear that teams like the Jags cant sell out games so they will b blacked out at home. Does that mean sunday ticket guys cant watch those games? I can see alot if teams being blacked out at home this year. I wouldnt pay for maybe 3 extra games a week depending on who is at home. Anybody kno the facts?

wow, the first guy said $300!!!!

where I am, using Bell ExpressVu satellite, it's $70... $70! and I get $40 credit for PPV and I get at least 4 UFC ppv's a year (probably more like 6) so that's a no brainer for me.

BUT - it's almost not worth it I agree. Since I'm not part of a 'local market' I get most games anyway. I get like 3 different NBC's and same with FOX and CBS - There are a few games that don't air every week that are on the ticket...the problem is that they're not all in HD! I remember one game that was in the HD channel's last year, but wasn't on an HD ticket channel (it was only in a non-HD ticket channel)...so not all ticket channels are broadcast in both standart and HiDef.

hmmmmm....maybe it really isn't worth it. I need to find out how many games I'm getting than I otherwise wouldn't.

going back and reading my post again, i see that it really isn't a no-brainer. This post will serve as kind of running through it in your head and realizing it might not be worth it....but I got it this year again, so the decision will be made based on this season going into the next one.

I'd get it if I had DirecTV, but not worth it to switch since the condo I'm in isn't conducive to a dish. Not really that big of a deal for me since the Lions are so horrible right now anyways, but it'd be nice. At least I get NFL Network in HD now so I can see the quick versions of Lions games.
