Bill, thanks for your work and maybe i've missed something said before, but here goes...

the sliders menu for the game says that for Player Skill, moving the slider to the left makes it easier for the player to run, pass, whatever. and moving it to the right makes it harder.

now people often say it's too easy to run, for example, and you tell them to LOWER the break tackle.

BUT... lowering the slider, say from 38 to 25 is moving the slider to the LEFT -- and according to the game's description that is making it easier.

confirmation of this seems to be that rookie level has all the slider to the FAR LEFT.

what am i missing here? you're telling guys to move the sliders to the left to make things harder but the menu and the slider for Rookie (or All Madden on the far right) seem to suggest the contrary.

have you explained this?

You're going to enjoy this answer, because you're both right and ultimately wrong. At the top Human slider menu (where there are 4 settings--run, pass, run defense, pass defense), it does indeed say that moving the slider to the left makes things easier. However (and bizarrely), when you go inside those settings (press "a") to the sub-menu of settings (three for each of the four top-level sliders), you'll see that many of them don't work in that direction. If I move break tackle to 100, for example, the RB will be breaking tackles like Superman, but if I move it to 0, almost no tackles will be broken.

See how needlessly confusing that is? The easiest way to check is to look at the Running top-level slider, then go into the sub-menu and increase break tackle to 100. The top-level slider's number should be lower.

The tackle numbers are indeed solo numbers.

I also have taken to flipping running plays if they look like they might end in disaster...so I've been doing that throughout this season sim.

Were you doing that with those first four games or since? And how is that working for you if you just started?

I've been doing it for this whole season sim. Since my last stat post I've played another game and Portis had nearly 100 yards against Carolina so his average moved up to 4.0 and closer to his real life of 4.3. I just finished the 1st quarter against KC and he's been getting stuffed, so we'll see. Either way it's believable enough and I'm happy with it. The main problem I'm having is that I'm getting torched by the CPU running game. Williams put up over 100 yards against me in that Carolina game and you saw where I was at after 4 games as far as rushing yards allowed. I'm not changing anything or panicing yet because I really have been playing against teams with excellent backs, but I would like to think the Skins could do a little better on the run defense.

For all you coach mode players out there(Bill, HC, Hughley 2k, etc..), I'd love to play some of you all online in coach mode. From what I understand you can use custom sliders in unranked games so we could use this slider set. If they ever patch it where you can use custom sliders for a franchise I'd love to get an online franchise going. In any event, I'm on 360. My GT is frrruncus

Custom slider franchise would be nice. I've seen a couple comments about the lack of. Wonder if it's enough of an issue for them to address.

I was thinking about the online franchise thing. You'd have to come up with a whole different set of HUM v HUM sliders when you went head to head in a league wouldn't you?

I played two games to check and see what the coach mode sliders would be like for a very low team (me) v. a great team at their place. I don't have the stats for the CLE @ NE game I ran, but I got killed! I think I scored one long one on a BTK by B. Edwards and got a field goal or two. NE went off. DET/PIT was much much worse...

They're tuned for "fast," so there will be some differences, but some people have said they played fine on those speeds.

I've heard people say that, but I can't tell any difference. I've tested them in both Play Now and Franchise, and they play well in both, particularly the coach sliders.
