Re: ACQB M10 Franchise Game Discussion/Ish-Talking Thread

Live messages containing invites to rejoin have been sent out to Tree, Phobia, and Doc (when he returns on Tues.). Hop back on ASAP, guys.

Tree has a tendency to go off the radar, and hasn't accepted his invite to rejoin or corresponded with me, so I will consider a replacement for the Bungles.

Phobia has been busy, as we know, with other stuff, but if you have a game vs. Buf, try to wait it out till he rejoins.

Also, I can see how many times a game has been started in OF, so if you start it more than once, you owe me an explanation, especially if it's a game vs. the CPU. You get my drift.

      Hey Andro

My girl is bugging my to go shopping at the mall. I have not been to that hell hole in about 5 years. So I am pretty stuck going there. I know it closes at 9pm central time. But I doubt we would be there that long.

I just wanted to see if later tonight around 9 or 10 central time is fine with you??? It is gonna be raining here all weekend which means I am going to be in the house all weekend. So let me know if this works for you bro.

Chicks don't understand commitment to a video game. This is how it went this morning when I was getting ready for work.

Me: "Babe, I got a game scheduled tonight. Some time after work"

Her: "Seriously?? I wanted to do something tonight. We been stuck in the house all week"

Me: "What do u wanna do? "

      Her: "I don't know......something"

Me: "Alright, but I got to get the game in tonight."

Sounds like you been having a rough time lately Phobia, ya I hate it when the girl drags me shopping since its an hour just to get there from where I live.

Good write up Andromada, I agree with most of what you said, the game just needs tuned and physics need better respect. Routes definatly get jumped in the nfl, I would like to see some better separation ability (not as much as 2k though). I want smarter blocking and a little faster blitz. Maybe I just need to work on my blitx schemes but it seems to hard to get sacks or pressure. I rarely ever take a sack, Pappy got a couple on me but those were most coverage sacks that I rarely see. Overall the game is a blast right now. Actually having some fun in quick games, I won one last night on a kickoff return for a TD

Anyways should be a fun weekend, going to the Toledo-Colorado game tonight and ready to watch the Bucks-USC game tomorrow.

Do you think people with 150+ yards a game in our franchise is "realistic" also even though I dont see that in the real NFL ?
You cant throw to WR's on the right going inside and you cant throw to WRs on the left trying to go outside. You cant throw fades or streaks when its appropriate because they never really get open....no seperation.

Not once last night did I see centers and guards stand up and turn their back to the LOS and not block anyone. I did not see 5 ducks go flying in the air when the QB got hit while throwing. I also did not see CB's running the route of the WR BEFORE the WR ran the route. I do see that in madden though.

The game is broken. Hopefully after the patches all this stuff will be addressed, however right now no one can justify the gameplay I am seeing in this game. It is better than last year in some areas but its still a borken game.
College football isnt like this, and it really puzzles me why. In NCAA, a WR can get sepration down the field.

The few times Ive seen a deep ball get completed on a streak, or a wheel route, they have all been Larry fitzgerald like, jump balls.

Ive used the Bucs, and Randy Moss does not get by Ronde Barber. He'll absolutely run from him on a drag, or curl, but not a fly route.

I enjoy the game overall, but the things that I see when I try to throw the ball vertically outside of the numbers, is really hacking me off.

The phantom interceptions, really bother me..both for me, and against. If you press Y, in the vicinity of the intended receiver, the chances of morphing into a INT are pretty solid.

Ya the phantoms interceptions drive me crazy. Madden/Ncaa have had the issue on CG where ratings mean more than physics. I don't get it because I don't recall these interceptions on LG. The game needs more neutral outcomes on wr/db interaction, ie tipped/drops/swats on contested coverage. Looks like I get the CPU next week

Grunt, I'll be on later this afternoon, around 2 p.m. Mountain time, if you want to try and get our game in.

My home CPU still is out, so if you need to play over the weekend, just send me a message on XBL as to what time and day you can play.

Re: ACQB M10 Franchise Game Discussion/Ish-Talking Thread

The reason WRs don't get any separation in this game is because there's zero cutting involved in the route running.

Madden's version of a WR running a "route" is a guy running around at max speed and making one or two turn-on-a-dime direction changes without ever having to decelerate and break his top speed.

The DBs stay with the WRs every step of the way because they somehow are the same speed backpedaling as running normally, and like the WRs, don't have to decelerate to change directions.

This is why the only way to get consistent separation from a WR in Madden is with pure speed.

Either your WR's faster than the DB lined up next to him, or he's getting locked down for the entire duration of his "route."

No, it's always been there. I remember them in 2005 as well.

In terms of the gameplay, I agree with both sides. I remember in the impressions thread for the demo, I was underwhelmed by the "new Madden" but saw hope for improved gameplay. The time-warp tackles, superman interceptions, swat AND tackle animations, poor line play, ect. is sadly all still there. There was an article on OS yesterday about how APF2k8 was still better despite M10's strides, and I agreed with almost all of it. Even watching the game last night made me remember how much more lifelike the APF animations and Qb play were.

That said, M10 is a far cry from broken, and APF was a far cry from perfect. Instead of all the issues I mentioned above, we had herculean half backs, clueless corners, and ridiculous returns. On balance, I still prefer APF, but that doesn't really matter for one simple reason: M10 is fun. I like the league, I like the players, and I like the games. There's a lot of great things about M10 to enjoy. I won't go through the whole list, but great online franchise mode and solid DB play rank high. You can ruin this game for yourself by focusing on the negatives, just like you could ruin APF. I'm not saying ignore them, I'm saying avoid them. here are my tips to the frustrated M10 player:

                      1. Don't play randoms online
                      2. Don't try to hit a wr by throwing directly over a LB, or at 45 angle to a DB (ie out routes) unless you have an accurate QB.
                      3. Don't run stretch or toss plays without a very fast RB.
                      4. Only call Cover 2/3 when you would normally have called cover 4, and only call Cover 4 when you would normally have called Prevent.
                      5. If you are relying on pressuring the QB, bring only big blitzes.
                      6. Run whenever possible, every throw brings with it the fear of an INT.
                      7. Just think of it as a house rule: any INT will be a pick 6, and throw yourself a party if you get a tackle.
                      8. EDIT: IMPORTANT ONE--> Never, ever throw to a manually guarded receiver, unless you're willing to give up 6 points. (that one is for you Weeman ).

The Oakland Raiders are a disgrace to NFL football. Easily the worst all around game of the season this week, as the Raiders fall hard to the SD Super Chargers.

While Shawn Merriman isn't busy beating women, he spends his time sacking and intercepting Jamarcus Russell. Dominant game by Wellwell's defense and special teams--2 FF and FR on PR, and 3 INT by the defense. The SD offense played on a short field all game and only turned the ball over once.

The lone bright spot for Oakland was a late-game surge by McFadden, who broke several nice runs including a 77-yard TD run in the game's waning minutes. Unfortunately, Sproles answered right back with a 68-yarder of his own.

Just when I think this team is making progress and might actually be capable of doing some good things, we come crashing back to the harsh realization that we are still the Oakland Raiders.

Great all around performance, Wellwell, and congrats on a thoroughly convincing victory!

                          Raiders 7 Chargers 34
Don't read into the score too much, it wasn't really that much of a blowout. The division rivals squared off in a game that saw 33 total passing yards from Philip Rivers. The Chargers passing offense could not get on track, as Raiders CB Asomugha completely shutdown Vincent Jackson. Antonio Gates could only find the ball twice, recording 27 yards.

Thanks to 5 turnovers created by the Chargers special teams and defense, San Diego was able to capitalize on great field position, resulting in rushing TDs for LT (2), Darren Sproles (1), and Gartrell Johnson (1). The trio combined for 169 rushing yards, including a 68 yard TD by Sproles.

Jamarcus Russel threw 3 picks in the game, with 1 going to Shawne Merriman...who also recorded 2 sacks in the game. Thanks to 2 fumbles by Justin Miller (who got pounded in the return game), the Chargers were able to seal their victory and sweep their series with Oakland for the season. Oakland did however shine with tiny glimpses of greatness from their "franchise" RB Darren McFadden. It will be interesting to see where this team is headed in the future. GG Autumn, you had a nice defensive gameplan, but you just caught some bad breaks. I'm looking forward to continuing this rivalry with you down the road.

Ya, good tips teambayern. I'm not meaning to big up negatives, just discussing what others was mentioning. I guess its not really needed we know the goods and bads of the game and we have a great league. I am having a lot of fun with the game and enjoy reading other peoples thoughts on football and how it relates to the game. I really rarely throw interception because I have played ncaa long enough to know the types of angles that trigger the phantom interception animations and avoid those passes. I'm really enjoying the game and when I see one of those annoying moments I try to roll my eyes and move on.
