Saying it has nothing to do with the economy is worse than blaming it entirely on the economy. At least blaming it entirely on the economy is actually trying to use rational thinking instead of saying hahaha madden sux, lol EA.

Yes, games like CoD and Batman sell, but the few GOTY candidates sell well every year. It's the other non-GOTY, but still solid games that get affected more by a down economy, as people choose to cut down on their number of game purchases or decide to buy them used later. Madden would probably fall in that category, especially if more people are already jumping off the day one purchase bandwagon due to the stale taste of the franchise.

Even single people have decisions to make. Food on the table or my yearly habit of Madden?

I'd take the food necessity over my "hobby or entertainment" spending.

If software sells hardware, explain the dropoff of five straight months of double digits negative software sales?

I have a hard time dismissing facts that have been reported over a 5 month period. I'm also admitting, though, it's a quality control issue as well.

        I see both sides.

yea Madden has been boring and a dust collector for me the last 3 years, i doubt i'll buy it next year. Waste of $60. And ive bought Madden every year since 92. But i hardly touch the game because its boring so why bother buying it and have the same thing happen again next year?

There's really nothing innovated with Madden 10'. Pro-tak isn't that great especially when the animation drives the moment while players outside of it can't bring their momentum in and participate. Instead, they just latch on and start hugging. I don't get the fight for every yard when one player can simply overpower four. EA should let another developer take over Madden.

Re: EA Boss Not Happy With Madden Sales....

When I was 15 I got a summer job to save up some money for a car. Around that time, the Sony Playstation became available and a few of my friends had one. I wanted one really badly, but if I bought one, it would take longer for me to get my car. I'm glad I did, as I ended up getting my gas payed for by all my PS owning friends who needed rides to school a year later.

The point being that when money is tight, it's not as much about price as it is priority. That's why the PS3 sales argument doesn't properly dispel the economy argument IMO. The price dropped and people see a chance to get something that can serve a few entertainment purposes and are jumping at it. Who knows, maybe some of those are people who haven't own a console in awhile. Maybe it will lead to more Madden sales in the future? Yes, 300$ is more than 60$...but if you can only choose one, it's perfectly plausible that people are putting that 60$ towards the PS3.

Now, on the flip side, maybe the general feelings towards Madden have shifted in a way that makes it less of a videogaming priority as well. Maybe it's no longer a "must have" for people who once found it to be so. Whether just that, or if you combine that with the economy, it would make some sense.

All of that is speculation though. What I have found amusing throughout this thread is the people who are reveling in this information as though it's a personal victory. As I said earlier, the sales aren't going to be bad enough to change anything about the exclusive license at this point. If anything, it could spell bad news if the suits make a knee jerk reaction and think that they have to do something more gimmicky to bring people back.

Again, sports videogame sales don't necessarily reflect the quality of the representation of the given sport, but the quality as a videogame. None of this means that they are suddenly going to "see the light" and choose between making the most "sim" game ever or nobley give up the license. All it means is sales are down...likely for a number of reasons. Do a quick search and you'll find the same discussions taking place last year and the year before. It's not a wake up call, it's not a sign.

First off I want to say thank you for being classy with your post. I see we dont agree but you didnt take a trashy approach in expressing your thoughts.

Now I dont agree with you as far as how you see what im saying being worst than those that state the economy is the reason why madden is selling bad, but its not a big deal.

I have my reason why I feel that way and its been said over and over why, but you every right to feel how you feel.

I guess in the end EA really needs to figure this out. Im sure we can both agree Madden 11 must be lights out or its big trouble for EA. A game that is heading in the right direction is not going to cut it anymore.

Take care Buddy. I know we were suppose to hook up and play a game of Madden, but I just couldnt get excited playing the game, but I do have NCAA. You can hit me up if you want to play that, or if the 2nd patch really makes the game playable Ill pick it up then.

Yeah, I was suppose to play against you in our NCAA dynasty, but my wife surprised me with a quick out of town vacation.

The players I've played against are good quality people. Good luck and I'll hook up with you on NCAA.

Yeah, there's always hope for next year.

Re: EA Boss Not Happy With Madden Sales....

not hard to get this...sooner or later even the masses who eat up madden every year will finally say "enough is enough" and demand the issues be fixed and true innovation is shown instead of just having fluff thrown into it year after year.

Th best thing that could happen for us fans is the game tanks one year and they have to overhaul it. Even though i don't like the mentality of just phoning it in each year I DO get it from a business POV in today's society which is all about putting in the least effort for the reward.

Madden forward. I as many on this site will tell you - Madden def. does not need any gimmicks. I look at it like this: EA is looking to emulate real NFL football as seen on Sundays - late rival league, the XFL looked to throw all sorts of gimmicks into the game of football and looked how it failed...miserably.

Ultimately when it's said and done - I think Madden will eventually gain a stronger base after this years title...issues not withstanding. The latest title is the best in the franchise and appears to be on track to only expand on a solid foundation in the years to come.
Maybe 'gimmicky' isn't the right word. Think something like the NHL series' skill stick. Innovative, fun, game changing, and completely new. That's what Madden needs. Not a button mashing fumble pileup and more cutscenes. What is everyone's obsession with cutscenes? The commentary and atmosphere are still terrible (especially in NCAA)....but, more cutscenes! Even the The Show series, as great as it is, it beginning to feel stale because the last few years are almost exactly the same. Find me a real difference between the show 08 and 09 (besides Mr. Met dancing on the dugout).

And for God's sake, can developers besides SCEA and the guys behind Uncharted learn to code in some anti aliasing on the ps3? The lack of it makes games look awful.

Knock it off guys seriously. I'm sick and tired hearing about this. This is not about madden football who cares how the game plays. Did you guys see all the EA logos and madden 10 banners all over ESPN and NFL Network? Dude it's freakin awesome.

                        I'm going to say it....yes I am....here I go......oh oh.....BRING ON 2K.

I dont think the economy is a big player in game sales.. IMO its more along the lines of less good quality titles released. I havent bought a console game in over a year because I was tired of 8 hour games or seeing so many crap titles released.

Madden sales are declining because of it being stagnate for so long.. There has been no improvement in gameplay.. EA can talk the talk ( hype ) but its clear they cant walk the walk ( actual reality of the game ).
