Makes you think about attempting a steal instead of just being able to attempt steals without a conscious.

Which is case in most bball games, its a refreshing change to me.
Im not talking about running around the court mashing the steal buttton on every offensive player im talking about if you see the ball is going to kobe off of the baseline inbound pass into the paint and you put your defensive player in between the ball and the receiver thats a tipped pass or steal where i play ball at bro.

On most occasions when the ball goes into the paint, there are some steals. I haven't even messed with the sliders that much. Try moving some sliders if you aren't seeing enough defense.

Played Live 09 and Live 10 demos back to back. Such a great improvement.

Post play is starting to feel better now.

Drive and kick works a treat and feels great.

Games have a nice ebb and flow about them.

One game I tried to force the issue with Kobe and he went cold.

Next game he was hitting dagger threes off broken plays.

Gotta say I'm loving the demo and after playing with the Lakers for most of the games I gotta say who feels me when I say

            "VINSANITY is Back!!!"

I actually like the game on Superstar more so than the other levels...The D feels a bit tighter and the gameplay feels more balanced for me on Superstar. This game simply plays a good game of basketball...So far I don't feel like anything thats happening offensively is cheap and I think while some have concerns about D I think we will need to get a lil deeper into the gameplay to truly see how effective certain strategies can be when defending.

I know I became dependent on the lock-down D at times and riding the ball handler all over the court...I don't think that was realistic. Good D in hoops is about quick feet, space and beating your man to a spot. It think we need to think along those lines for D in this game.

If you're right in the path of the ball on the frontcourt inbound play, try getting right up by the inbounder and getting into the hands up position (up on RS) or timing the steal button just as the ball gets passed in. you should be able to deflect it almost every time.

                  Thought it was terrible.

Didn't like the way it looked, the way it plays, or the way it moves. With exception on the somewhat good dribble animations. Other than that it was not worth playing more than twice.

If people attempt to do them randomly, I'm happy that the AI blows by them. So what we tried to do was boost the impact of those defensive actions when you did them in the correct circumstances. Essentially, hitting the steal button just as you make contact with the dribbler on a drive or crossover move. Or hitting steal when you see a guy sizing up. Or hitting steal just as you make contact with a guy going for a layup to strip the ball. Or reading where the shooter is trying to go, anticipating, and challenging/blocking his shot.

But for defense in general, our focus this year wasn't to create "video game" defensive tactics. But rather, we wanted to encourage users to master positional defense and team defensive strategy. Read the dribbler, anticipate, cutoff the angles, bring help at the right times, etc. Yeah it's great to get a strip, knock the ball loose, or huge block... but over the course of a game, good defense is just making sure the offense works for every shot. For me, if I make my opponent take a contested shot on every possession and not give up easy scores, I consider it a successful defensive stand. So there may not be tons of stuff "to do" with the controller on the defensive end of the floor. But there's plenty to think about and I think it's actually quite engaging... especially against another human opponent.
Sure, but this sort of positional defense was available to you last year. What held it back was the fact that you would sort of "suction" to the offensive player and could disrupt what he was doing. It would look awkward, with the player clinging on, latching off, clinging on... I'm glad it's gone.

But that doesn't mean a defender can be more active. The post, on the perimeter... as a defender I position myself to not give the man I'm defending a spot to get to... but what else is there? The challenge shot doesn't work after your player has jumped for a shot. Is this a demo only issue?

I just feel the defense is "passable" this year, but it was the same thing last year. You have enough things to sort of disrupt the offensive player... but look at the upgrade the offense received in terms of dribbling, passing, shooting... I honestly don't think anyone can say that defense was given the same sort of thorough cleansing. It's almost impossible to stop an offensive player already ahead of you with a hard foul or block attempt... they just swipe at the air behind them, even if you have momentum.

I'm not trying to take away from the good in the game. But the problem is... the good is so good, it makes the bad that much more noticeable.

I know you guys know exactly what I mean when I make that comment.

I have noticed this from watching people's demo vids so far - player momentum is not part of the shot blocking control...the players only jump straight up - their direction and momentum do not cause the block animation to be a "moving jump" or a "momentum jump" when they attempt a shot block. If you are running full speed at the hoop and you press the shot block button, your momenbum will NOT carry you toward the hoop as it should...instead the player will stop and just jump STRAIGHT UP.

EA needs to add player momentum to the shot blocking the same way they added it to shooting - for example, pressing forward and the block button causes the player to jump forward and attempt a block. press right and block button causes the defender to jump to the right as he attempts the block, etc.

The left stick sensitivity should also allow you to control the distance and power of your jump on the shot block - if you are running full speed to the right and hit the button, your momentum should cause you to do a "long, one legged jump" to the right as you go for the block. if you are barely moving the left stick to the right, your player will attempt a "shorter jump" as he attempts the block.

Can someone explain why Pietrus plays better than VC on superstar? He dunks over the whole lakers team, drains every three and leaning 2 he takes. Is this how every 1-dimensional role player in this game will play?

I'm overall pretty happy with the defense.

                          - the need to play solid positional D
                          - the need to anticipate the shot to get a block
                          - if you jump to early then it's a score
                          - you need to pick the right moment to go for a steal

All these things simulate the fundamentals of defense.

I agree it is no where near as exciting as all the offensive improvement, but at worst is it very serviceable.

Bball is a game that is geared towards favouring the offense. Live 10 reflects that quite well.

But you are right, it isn't as outstanding as other parts of the game.

                            Hey Developers,

Just a heads up but I encountered the "camera freezing on the bench after a time out" just like in Live 08 and 09. Only saw it once but wanted to let you guys know.

Does Derek Fisher take 3's like he's Reggie Miller in real life? The man can definitely hit wide open shots, but I don't remember him just catch and shooting with a guy on him...

Did anyone notice Yao, Nash, KG, and Kidd sitting on the sidelines during the shoot around? Can we "sub" those guys in?
