    Re: IGN NHL10 360 Review

Seems like the game is being punished by the reviewer for not adding back of the box features and instead tightening up under the hood stuff. Haven't played the final game yet so I'm not saying whether I disagree with the score or not, just the slant of the review.

"The biggest problem that fans of the series will have is that it just isn’t all that different from NHL 09. There are “new” modes that are tacked on pieces from things that we’ve seen in the past and the gameplay refinements are a mixed bag that feel as though they could have been tuned just a bit better before launch. Nothing is a bad or poor choice that even comes close to ruining the experience, but there could have been more done to expand the core gameplay and offering of modes."

This seems to be the theme from some who have played the demo and last years game.

I don't know, a lot of the gameplay refinements they made were important to the more than just casual gamer. Especially the board play, passing, and style of play.

RIght Eddie but I have a question. And a question in general for everyone.. With what you said and others, Are they possibly expecting too much for 1 year cycle?? The reason I say that is NHL10 Was touted by a ton of people as the one of the better or best sports games out..When you sell so many copies and get rave reviews across the board, Why not just tune the gameplay for the time being to make it play tighter... I don't know if that's the case but it sounds like that is what went on.. Now that there aren't new modes or the game isn't leaps different then last year it's not a good game??? I think they were really trying to tighten things up and in the next couple of years improve presentation and GM/Chise modes... I have to give props to Ea Canada because they came a long way since 06.....

my impressions come from people here...i trust the insights of people whose opinions i value here over some clown writing a review that doesn't know the game all that well.

this is what I said, not a bad things, besides the board play, the demo felt exactly like 09, again which is not bad, I guess I was looking for a bit more, may they should have put more authentic areas and added more tho the presentation.

Also what's up with the framerate probelms te review speaks about?

That is the one thing that makes me wonder what this generation of gamer is looking for? What is a perfect game and how do developers take a strong game and make it better? There is only so much room for improvement year to year.

If the controls work, whether it feels new or not, why mess with them?
                What?

personally, i thought 09 was a great game - it was vastly improved. if 10 builds on that then i'll be one happy camper...board play, passing toned down - i'm giddy!

Exactamundo,He prolly sucks at the game or just doesn't know Hockey. I will go on the reviews and imrressions of unbiased guys and determine my decision fromthere. For now, possibly a Christmas time buy for me.

Exactly. The direction EA Canada chose for developing NHL '10 was/is the right one.

I've been meaning to download the PS3 demo to see if it's the same, but the framerate in the 360 demo drops significantly at times when your battling in the corners, and it's not just in the Be A Pro Mode.

Edit: I will add that it's something that doesn't last long, maybe only a second, then it jumps back up to 60fps.

Good points and I think they made a point of saying it doesn't kill the game, especially for people like me that didn't spend a lot of time with 09, but maybe the diehards won't feel the game has changed that much and I have read some of those exact sentiments in this forum. Doesn't make it a bad game though.

framerate is poor in be a pro when the camera swings around the net etc. it's fine in classic/ice camera. they should've fixed it by now..
