    PES 2010 Demo Impressions

Okay, now that the demo for PES 2010 has been released I think we should post impressions.

I'll start it off. I've played about 10-15 games now and I'm pretty happy with the way the game plays, much better than last year. First thing to say is the graphics are AWESOME!! Player models and faces are top notch. The animations are much improved but I still think are a little stiff compared to FIFA10.

Gameplay wise, I think the game has come in leaps from last year. While there are still similarities with PES2009, the 2010 offering is a much more refined and tighter play. Movement is now expanded to more angles. I don't think it's quite 360 degree but around 32 when dribbling now (much better than the 8 way from last year). This has created a whole new aspect of the game and I must say, has given the game a new feel.

Individualisation is what PES is known for, and the 2010 demo doesn not disappoint. Running with Messi feels so different than Gerrard, Ibrahimovic or others. You really do get a feel for each player that is not present in the FIFA10 demo.

    Final thoughts:
+ Improved graphics and player likeness
+ More range of movement (not 360 degree, but still very good)
+ Tighter dribbling and general gameplay movement
    + More animations
    + Improved Keepers

    - Passing still not as fluid as FIFA10 demo
    - Movement while improved still feels a little "stiff"
    - Animations while improved are still not at FIFA10 demo levels
    - Crowd sounds/reactions lacking in demo (may be rectified in full game)

All in all a great effort from Konami this year, it will be interesting to see if they can take back the "best football/soccer" game title this year. After playing the FIFA10 demo for a while now (and I've never bought FIFA, always been a PES man) it will be a tough fight to take it away from EA. This year may be the year I buy an EA sports product!!

Sounds good, but is the 360 movement really implented well in this game? I'm looking forward to both Fifa and PES. I won't be playing any of the demos so I will be waiting for the retail versions. I plan on getting Fifa for 360 and then getting PES for PS3 much later until some great option files start springing up.

      Re: PES 2010 Demo Impressions

I played the demo last night for the first time and have to admit the game play is a giant leap forward from last year. I could not play the 2008 or 2009 versions of PES - they were that bad IMO so am glad to see Konami take a meaningful step forward this year. The biggest test for me will be online game play which was horrible the past two versions.

The thing that struck me playing the demo is it felt like a PES game - something the series has missed since 2007. The tighter game play is a big difference and the "stiffness", while still there a bit is much improved. The response times seem a bit slow however need more time with the demo to make a judgment.

All is all very glad to see Konami will still be in the game - something I was not so sure would be the case.

I don't think they really implemented 360 degree movement, although it feels much better than last year. When I switch to the Fifa demo though you can still tell they have true 360 degree movement. It definitely is an improvement though and won't stop me from getting PES.

Overall I really like the demo. I was a bit disappointed that we can't play with the strategy settings yet to see what they can do.

Visually the game is a huge upgrade.

Gameplay feels great. I was a big fan of PES 2009 and this feels even better.

I am going to put in my pre-order today, as my local stores usually won't get a copy of PES unless I do (PES gets no love here in this part of the US).

Last night I could not find it on the PS3, only on the 360 - agree with you controller wise so am hoping for a PS3 demo in the US soon....

For the PS3 just create a UK account and get it there.

I also like it better than the Fifa demo. There were some animations that bothered me last year that I didn't see in the demo. Also, the goalies seem better to me which was another gripe last year.

                  And to qoute Hulkamaphone

That right there is the reason I still prefer PES over Fifa

The biggest improvement is the player models and general on field look. However as much as it feels more organic the SAME running animations are there since 3 years back. I love the look and feel this year but watching them run makes me vomit.

controlling Toni is so hard...he he's so slow and feels very un-coordinated when running with the ball.

Agreed. I like both FIFA and PES demos. Good year for footie games.

I've only played 2 games but I've already seen that stupid "sliding shot" animation that pissed me off to no end in PES last year...

The graphics upgrade looks fantastic but the animations and fluidity of control really needs some work - this is what defined PES in the WE6 days and I fear it's been completely lost in the transition to next gen. Players still feel cumbersome and too weighted down and the controls feel sticky and slow.

On the other hand, the FIFA 10 demo is showing me tons of fluid animations and responsive controls. I need to play some more games of PES to be sure, but it's not looking good so far
