    NBA 2K Initial Impressions (Pastapadre)

Having spent a significant amount of time with NBA 2K10 over the last few days it felt like a good time to post some of my general impressions of the game thus far. Of course make sure to watch the videos I've posted to make your own judgments on some of the strengths and weaknesses.

Are you sure that link is correct? When I click on it, it says database error.

Good to get some impressions out there, even better to find out there is a demo dropping tomorrow but this isn't really a glowing endorsement. I mean tell us how you really feel Pastapadre, lol.

Sounds like he thinks it's just okay. Seems to be pointing out more negatives than positives. Just my take on his impressions, Peace!!!

I've just read the article. Doesn't sound too good...but then again, we need to play the demo to get the hang of it.

After seeing how he plays basketball, I won't even click the link to find out. He's horrible when it comes to basketball, he can't do any moves, he runs all over the place messing up spacing causing the cpu to be like WTF, pressing the pass button all willy nilly over the place he's horrible.

I like to see methodical offense and a understanding of the play concept, in one of his videos he calls a play and not understanding the play art to pass, he just runs up to the PF and the PF is like huh? and decides to just set a pick.

His impression mean nothing because, he doesn't know what he's doing.

Anything non-EA that PastaPadre reviews or gives his opinions on should be taken with a grain of salt.

I say wait until the DEMO drops and the game this week.

Wow, Pastapadre is a EA lover... No way this game is so bad to now even say a single thing positive about 2k10...

"I’m not a big fan of the post-score replays, reaction scenes, and “G Moments”. It just interrupts the flow and pace of the game. What bothers me most is that the replays seemingly allow the defense to get down the court while you’re stuck waiting to inbound the ball."

Does he even care about presentation? I can respect some of his gameplay analysis but it seemed like everything else just bothered him or wasn't enough.

To be honest I dont take Pastapadre seriously when it comes to his NBA 2K opinions. I have a PS3 so I will have to wait till next week to play the demo but my plans are still the same, NBA2K over Live.

He prefers Live but thats why these are his impressions. Show me where he claims to be unbiased. If you account for his bias, the impressions are fair. I for one would prefer to see his videos and know that his kind of play will work in 2K10 instead of finding out as soon as I play a buddy.

It is curious that the game seemed smarter on Pro than All Star. I've never liked HOF but I might bump things up to Superstar and drop the shooting sliders and bump the foul sliders early on.

I"m going to take a good hard look at the 2K & Live demos this week. I already have 2K coming in the mail next week but i'm not above taking it to a store for store credit and picking up Live or waiting both out (since both are due for sizeable patches).

Yes Pasta tends to prefer EA but wait until both games are out...I bet for the first time in a long time there will be many reviewers who prefer Live this year...not because Live is a BETTER game yet but because the 2k series is getting a bit stale...if Live does not have any major flaws I admittedly may flip sides myself...although I'll still probably pick up 2k10 for the PC because I love the mods people come up with...

Based on what I saw in the videos the guy aint lying. The difference between Pro and Allstar didn't really seem to be about difficulty. Its just about shot percentage. They went from much too high to just high which was probably why it was easier for him with his weak defense. I noticed the same thing when Momentous Celtic played the Nuggets on Pro they defended Brandon Roy well and shot 65%. His defense wasn't nearly as bad as Pastpadres and they still shot 65%.

He also said the pick and roll was too effective but he didnt say it was money or a major exploit. Same thing we could see from his vids.

He said the shot percentages were too high on default levels. Duhhh. Get used to hearing that. It will be the number one reason 2k10 gets docked in reviews and it will be one of the main gripes from casual gamers who arent familiar with sliders or feel like they are cheating when they change them. If the shooting isnt adjusted online it will be the most common complaint there. Again we could all see this in the vids.

He also said the zone defense focuses too much on area instead of the men in the area. Thats been true for a while. CH 2k8's matchup zones could have solved that.

He was nitpicky in some other areas and he is an EA homer but his main points seemed pretty obvious based on the videos Visual Concepts track record.
