But yeah, they need to really drop down to the basics and start over. Start with weight vs weight. How should the portrayed? How much should strength matter in the dice rolls? This is the stuff we need to know.
How about making a dynamic ratings?

You show the players hard stats and then have a separate menu that has the dynamic stats. There dynamic stats are dependent upon the hard stats.

(All stats and numbers are theoretical and just used as examples)
(The would also need to add new animations for this situations)
(If my math is off...It is late and I opened this morning)
Strength could be a dynamic stat. Here is the formula I would use. 200 pounds is the standard weight. If you weigh 10 pounds lighter then 200 then you will have 5 points subtracted from your strength. If it is 20 pounds lighter it will be 10 points subtracted. That being said if you weight 300 pounds you could see a plus 50 points.(every 10 pounds is 5 points and 200 is the base number)

This would make an 300 pound offensive line men with 90 strength have a total of 140 strength. A CB who weighs 200 pounds with 50 strength would be knocked on his rear every play.

Take Freeney for a moment. He is 268 and has 73 strength. His dynamic strength would be about 95-100. This would allow him to stay upright against Olinemen and then use his speed ect ect like he does IRL.

Taking that same Olinemen and adding 50 pounds to him(say he is a guard) and give him 95 strength as a hard number. He will then have a DS(dynamic strength) 180. He could possibly knock Freeney on his rear if he gets a good pop.

A DT who is 300 pounds and have 90 strength would be able hold his own but would get pushed back by that 350 pound guard.

Obviously not all players block with the same strength. Therefore, you could make RBS and PBS become percentages of what the DS is. This same could apply for a power move on a Dlinemen.

So a Tackle like Jeff Oath who is 330 pounds with 95 HS(hard strength) and 97 RBS would have a DS of 160. His DRBS(dynamic run block strenth) would be 155 and change.

If he was trying to block against Darrnell Dockett who is 285 with 91 HS and has a 95 PM(Power move). His DS would be 133. His DPM(dynamic power move) would be a 126 and change.

He would have a chance to beat Oath with a power move but Oath in run blocking would be able to get some separation on him.

This would allow for weight to matter and for ratings to have a VISUAL method to track that we can keep up. So when we wonder why something happened we can look at the dynamic numbers and go yeah I could see that happening.

EDIT

For those who are wondering what would happen to players who don't have a good power move but have good DS(like say Freeney) they would not be able to bull rush anyone but poorly rated weak linemen but if they had a good enough DS they wouldn't get pushed back as much on a run play because they are big and strong players...They just dont have the proper technique to use to beat someone who is strong and has good DRBS.

For those who say less ratings, would you rather they hide the dynamic ratings and not let you see them or would you rather they show them to you and allow you to have a better understanding of your players and their abilities?(This setup would let you see exactly what is going on and also make the ratings matter)

PBF and RBF would be done a completely different scale. They may not even have a dynamic stat. Big linemen can still have exceptional footwork IRL so weight wouldn't be a factor. Maybe height could be used but I don't know enough about blocking to say exactly how it would effect footwork/finesse move. Maybe agility but then again finesse/footwork are both techniques and not really effected by physical skills.

I was planning on doing a work up of tackling, hit power, and trucking but it is getting late and my mind is getting foggy. I will post it some time soon.
