    NHL Line Combinations Community Project

Since it's so hard to find accurate semi-official lines I thought it'd be a good idea if we got information from the fans of each team.

Post your team's line combos in two formats: With and Without Injuries. If you're fimiliar with more than one team, go ahead and post others too.

I'll start with the St. Louis Blues.

    WITH INJURIES:
    McDonald-Backes-Perron
    Kariya-Tkachuk-Boyes
    Winchester-Berglund-Oshie
    Steen-McClement-Janssen/Crombeen*

    Jackman-Polak
    Sydor-Johnson
    Colaiacovo-Weaver/Pietrangelo**

    Mason
    Conklin

    PP1:
    Boyes-Tkachuk-Berglund
    Colaiacovo-Johnson

    PP2:
    McDonald-Backes-Perron
    Kariya-Pietrangelo/Polak

    PK1:
    McClement-Steen
    Jackman-Polak

    Pk2:
    Backes-Oshie
    Colaiacovo-Johnson

    Injuries: King, Brewer

*Janssen plays against more physical teams, typically with a known enforcer.
**Pietrangelo is on a 9 game tryout with the team. If the team wants to keep him Weaver will likely be sent down. If not, Pietrangelo will go back to juniors for the year.

    WITHOUT INJURIES:

    WITH INJURIES:
    McDonald-Backes-Perron
    Kariya-Tkachuk-Boyes
    Winchester-Berglund-Oshie
    Steen-McClement-Janssen/King/Crombeen*

    Jackman-Polak
    Brewer-Johnson
    Colaiacovo-Sydor/Pietrangelo**

    Mason
    Conklin

    PP1:
    Boyes-Tkachuk-Berglund
    Colaiacovo-Johnson

    PP2:
    McDonald-Backes-Perron
    Kariya-Pietrangelo/Polak

    PK1:
    McClement-Steen
    Jackman-Polak

    Pk2:
    Backes-Oshie
    Brewer-Johnson

*Janssen and King play against more physical teams, typically with a known enforcer. King plays against the large enforcers like Boogard.
**Pietrangelo is on a 9 game tryout with the team. If he's still on the team when Brewer returns, Pietrangelo will likely split time at the 6th D spot with Sydor.

Since I am a Blues fan, I really appreciate this attention to detail. Hopefully some more fans can cover the rest of the teams.

Re: NHL Line Combinations Community Project

Here are the expected lines for the Penguins and I'll update any changes I see tonight after the opener:

(With current injury to Max Talbot)

                Forward Lines

                Kunitz/Crosby/Guerin
                Fedotenko/Malkin/Dupuis
                Cooke/Staal/Kennedy
                Rupp/Adams/Godard
                Bourque (scratch)

                Defense Pairings

                Orpik/Gonchar
                Eaton/Letang
                McKee/Goligoski
                Skoula (scratch)

                Goaltenders

                Fleury
                Johnson

Not sure how they'll handle the 4th line with the late addition of Bourque, so I'll make sure to update that after tonight. Coach Bylsma said Dupuis will play on Malkin's line for now, despite Kennedy playing with him for most of camp. He said he wanted to keep the Staal line together.

When Talbot returns (two months?), the intention as of now is to put him in the 2nd line RW spot and he'll assume one of the PK roles. I'll watch tonight for the special teams combos, as the Pens never had everyone on the ice at the same time in the preseason.

                *UPDATE*

                Special Teams

                (PP)

                Guerin/Crosby/Malkin
                Goligoski/Gonchar

                Kunitz/Staal/Fedotenko
                Letang/Gonchar

They did give Staal some time on the first unit in place of Guerin Saturday night against the Islanders. Gonchar has played just about every second of PP time thus far, but if you'd prefer not to have him double up, Eaton would go on the second unit in his place.

                (PK)

                Staal/Cooke
                Orpik/Gonchar

                Adams/Dupuis
                McKee/Eaton

These guys have the bulk of the PK time and are the intended pairings, although Goligoski got a fair amount in the first half of the NYI game due to McKee's fight/instigator/misconduct penalties. 3rd substitute forward pairing would be Crosby/Malkin and/or Fedotenko.

One other note, if you're using the Pens, sub in Malkin or Crosby as the 4th line center and move Adams to RW for at least the 3rd period. Godard is only playing early in the game, averaging a whopping 3:52 of ice time.

4 - Moreau LW, Gagner C, Stortini RW

Scratches - Nilsson, MacIntrye. Moreau iffy to play, if he can't go, Nilsson will slot into 4LW

                  IR - Pouliot, Pisani

                  Defense:
                  1 - Souray - Staios

                  Khabibulin - Drouin-Deslauriers

Also, here's the lines from today's Blackhawks game in Finland:

                  1 - Byfuglien, Toews, Kane
                  2 - Versteeg, Bolland, Sharp
                  3 - Ladd, Madden, Brouwer
                  4- Kopecky, Fraser, Eager

                  D1 - Keith, Seabrook
                  D2 - Campbell, Hjalmarssson
                  D3 - Barker, Sopel

                  G - Huet

I think the backup is Niemi, and he might play in tomorrow's game in Finland vs. Florida.

Updated previous post with Penguins special teams units based on the first two games. No real surprises, aside from Goligoski getting the majority of the 1st unit PP time ahead of Letang. That's not even a big surprise, but 'Tanger had that spot in the playoffs.

Not to get too far off-topic, but if Gogo stays on the 1st PP, he'll put up better offensive numbers. Has a few points already I believe...
