Jets starting 58ovr rookie. C. Palmer backs up Brady in NE

I dont know if the guys can improve on this in franchise mode for next year, but too often I see teams stacking players at certain positions.

For instance in my Bengals franchise Palmer's contract finally ran out. However, he was also 36, and I didn't want to pay his demands when I had a 82ovr 2-year backup I drafted in the 3rd round.

So I let him go, only to find Sam Bradford in free agency. Luckily I have cap room so I open up the bank and sign him.

So the season starts and I go find where Palmer signed and it shows at NE, so I figured Brady retired. Nope. Palmer is backing up Brady in NE at an 85 ovr while the Jets are playing a rookie who is 58ovr.

Also in San Fran they have Portis and Gore in the same backfield, only Portis is starting over Gore.

      Rookie first round bust?

Why is Jamarcus Russell still starting and Michael Vick a 3rd QB?

Jeff Garcia a free agent, and Josh Johnson starting!?

      Marvin Harrison . . . Derrick Brooks . . . even Matt Jones can't get a game.

Vikings drafting Peterson in the first round to replace a 1000 Yard rusher in Chester Taylor!

      Broncos drafting Moreno . . .

Bucs trading for Ward, and benching him for Cadilac.

      **** the nFl sucks!

      Damn Madden right...

Palmer's getting old and wants a ring....why wouldn't he sign with the patriots?

          Great post

How about the Saints? Drafting Reggie Bush #2 overall when they already had Deuce McAllister. And on top of that, two undrafted free agents get more playing time than him 3 years later? Are you kidding me NFL?! So unrealistic.

Unless I am misunderstanding OP, the issue isn't the big names in odd situations, it is the money. Palmer wanted more than OP wanted to pay as a back-up; then NE spends that much on Palmer to back up Brady (which, does NOT happen in the NFL). Again, I think the issue is Gore and Portis in the same backfield, both being paid as feature backs. All of Exonerated's examples (and it was a great post, by the way!) have a lower salary involved. Vick took a small contract to come to Philly. Peterson and McCallister would have rookie contracts. Show me an example of a real NFL team going out and paying big money to an established star to come to a team that already has an established star at that position. People bitched (rightly so) when NFL 2k5 had these things happen, so Madden shouldn't get a pass.

McAllister was on his second contract.

              Good points though however.

I can see both sides of this argument, but this prime example on why the overall rating needs to be removed. There is too much emphasis put on that overall rating.

Oops, I meant Bush, when they had McAllister.

Which sides? There is only one side and it's that the CPU makes stupid and very-unrealistic roster moves and these kinds of things detract from the game and should be prevented.

                      No, there's 2 sides.

The other side being that sometimes teams DO in fact make some really fracking stupid decisions. See Oakland, Garcia, Russell, for example.

Everyone wants to look at anything even slightly odd in Madden and claim it's not realistic, while then ignoring how illogical and sometimes flat out stupid real life can be. Madden isn't perfect, but stupid roster moves are part of real life too.

no new rings will be on the cheaters fingers anytime soon.

The CPU can't be programmed to tell if a player is "too good" to be a back-up. It knows it needs a FA so it gets one to fill a rosater spot. What would you like it to do? Only sign 70 OVR backups and leave Carson Palmer in FA?

As far as the Jets in your franchise go, many teams endure a season or two with a bad QB before they can find a better solution. It'd be unrealistic if every team could just get a solid QB at will.

In the real world the Eagles have THREE QB's better than the starters for the Raiders/Panthers/Bucs/Browns/Redskins. Kolb would definitely start in Miami, Buffalo, Tennessee, St. Louis and maybe Detroit or San Fran. If that happened in Madden would you say the game is broken?

Portis and Gore? Why is that unusual, the Cowboys have three RB's that would start on most teams. The Eagles took a RB early in the draft even though they have Westbrook, the Panthers took Stewart with their #1 when they already had Williams. Fred Taylor signed with NE to share carries. And on and on...
Don't look back too long and don't look too far ahead.

J Johnson should be a 58 over all and is a rookie... IRL
