Curious if anyone else here has played MX vs. ATV? I've tried Pure too but that's just too cartoony for me. Reflex looks like it'll pull out all the stops. All I need now is a demo to really show me what this game will be like. It's supposed to come out in December so the demo should be out soon I hope!

MX vs. ATV Reflex
Anyone into the dirt racing games like me? I love to get down & dirty! lol! But really, I just heard there's a new MX vs. ATV game coming out. I totally wasn't expecting that since didn't Untamed just come out last year? I was a little underwhelmed by that after Unleashed but this looks like it's going to knock the socks off both fo those games. Here's the trailer for anyone who hasn't seen:

Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex
If you're so curious, just get the demo on the 12th, man. It's gonna be pretty damn sweet. I doubt there'll be an MX game better than this right now.
I've been watching all the gameplay vids on youtube and it's looking slick. Just check this out and see what you think:

Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex
Demo impressions
Sounds are horrible, oh so horrible. Why cant they get a 4 stroke to sound right? The industry is now a 4-stroke environment, can we please stop using crap that shouldn't of made it on the previous title?
Controls are funky for the time being. Way too sensitive for what should happen, leaning back with the littlest steering to the left or right is death. The fact that you need to use the L-Stick to steer (handlebars) more than the lean is horrible. Anyone that's been on a bike knows you steer with your body more than you ever will with the turn of the handlebars. Unless you're in 1st and leaving pits, then its understandable.
Bike/physics are still weird. No longer the on-the-mon feeling but now the bike is extremely flickable.. just doesn't feel right compared to the years I've ridden supercross-style tracks in San Diego. I'll give them credit though from this demo, atleast you can't fly 400ft like their older titles.
Graphics are definitely the strong suit, like its always been.
Tracks have been improved instead of being the ultra smooth look/feel. Somewhat of a penalty system for certain lines but really, it doesnt matter still. The dirt does shift, I didn't notice it the first time through so I did a few donuts and the dirt did build up. I want to see how the dirt interacts in a full race- will it be like dead bodies or bullets in other games where its a limit and it'll reset?
2/5 from me so far.. this series has been an overall 3/5.
MX Simulator for the PC and the PC community version of Unleashed > any console-based MX game. Its not even close.
Untamed was a waste of time and money.Last edited by av7; 11-12-2009, 06:34 PM.Aaron

Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex
I tried it last night.
I like it.
It was about what I had expected.
The track surface is WAY better.
Looks like RC is in the game which is cool.
Hope Reed & Stewart are in there as well.
I also like the announcer dude from a presentation standpoint...I think it was a nice add.
Cant wait to see the Supercross tracks....it would be huge if they mirror the real tracks from this season...probably wont happen though.PSN:EVH_4_EVERComment

Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex
Steering is way too sensitive for the PS3 controller (IMO). In the demo it is extremely frustrating to just try and stay on the track, let alone compete. I love motocross but I don't know if I can subject myself to the frustration (controls). On the plus side, the graphics and environment are nice. May have to rent or buy used to try out when it's released.Comment

Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex
The controls take a lot of getting use to, but I don't think it's bad at all. I would like to change some things around and I know that's something we'll get to do in the final release. Gotta ease up on the left stick on those sharp turns. I would usually use the left when trying to pull off whips. Seriously though, in 45mins. I started getting the hang of it. I'm still not perfect, but it's a start. I think you should all keep the learning curve in mind before getting frustrated.
I like the physics. It's not as floaty as the past games. You can feel some weight on there in the air. It's not perfect, but to me, it's an improvement from what once was. Most of the physics feel right. I tried out the bikes and the quads for fun and both were great.
Any nuances i've experienced seem pretty minor. Overall, I still think this is the best and closest to feeling realistic game for people who've actually rode bikes or quads. I'm not saying it replicates it by any means, but it's the closest compared to any other game. This will still be a must buy for me.Comment

Are the controls like Pure? Do you get massive air like in Motocross Madness?Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

No, they toned it down but the feel is still arcade. Wish my 450 felt like a BMX bike when I used to ride.

Re: MX vs. ATV Reflex
Rainbow is the developer. They have done a long list of MX games - untamed, unleashed, fury as well as the Madness games.
The demo was ok but I don't think it is their best work. The Madness games and Unleashed for me stand above the rest and this just didn't feel up there but I guess the real test will come with the full game.
It looks decent but not great and the sounds are not so good. The presentation had too much of the Xtrme/DiRT vibe in it for me.
Handling is ok but I am still not seeing the innovation of reflex - leaning has always been a part of these games and now it just feels clunkier. Even though you grow into the controls it always feels like you need a couple extra fingers to play it right. Ticks are very unnatural feeling and difficult just to initiate. Also agree with the person who said the left stick is too twitchy. A little steer and lean to the same side and your bike bites in way too much.
I do like the tracks that get dug in. Much better then Rally Revo did with this tech but maybe too good. By the third lap it feels almost too tore up. Maybe if the controls weren't what they were this wouldn't be as noticeable. It also doesn't help that the bikes feel really light and floaty.
Random thoughts....who put a chain link fence right next to the track?Comment
