While I personally am not a big fan of the Madden series, I can't fault EA for purchasing the exclusive license. The NFL put it up for the highest bidder, and EA grabbed it. Take Two would have done the same thing if they were financially able to do so.

The Madden series, as well as the NFL 2k series, were argueably the flaship/biggest titles for each respective company --- it's a sound business decision to take advantage of the exclusivity.

I don't see how EA was unethical in the situation at all....the NFL put the exclusivity deal out there and EA grabbed it. Just like Take Two did with the MLB deal.

It stinks for those gamers who like the games from the other company, but such is life....and business.
