It's not really an APF rip-off.

This has been something EA offered in its FIFA series for 2-3 years now. And might I say, a fun way to play the game. I don't know if it will translate well into the NFL but in FIFA is was a blast!

Interesting, I wonder if the FIFA offering was before / after APF2K8? Maybe APF2K8 ripped it off rom FIFA? Either way, I loved the ability to create custom teams to go online, however, with their approach I hope they provide some way to make sure you are playing with fair / balanced teams. That's one thing APF2K8 did that made it really challenging, but then, I view APF2K8 as much more of a chess match than Madden due to problems with gameplay.

Yea I believe Fifa offered it first in 2007 with their champions league game so looks like APF ripped Fifa off regardless this game mode was a blast in Fifa so heres hopping it'll translate well to madden

Is this something like the Bakugan card game or Magic: the gathering?

anything that will make this game last until we get a new engine I am all for it

It is free to play. But you have the choice to buy packs of cards with real money. You can also get packs of cards through on field achievements.

Ok that is what I thought. But in fifa I think you had to pay to play it after the trial expired.

The Pay or Play approach never works. Guys with fat wallets will go online and purchase tons of packs and have teams that dominate the competition. Hope they make it where it's only madden points that go towards it, but then I don't see how they make $$$ off it.

Yeah, in FIFA there was a $10 fee for the download. Madden is a free download. Hopefully that won't mean that the Madden UT version is stripped down.

Imagine if EA had all the people that made this mode work on something more important... like getting offline franchise back to its glory days. Waste of work time on Madden 11 if you ask me
