I think EA needs to give up the dream of making this game for the gamers who don't play football to get them interested and enhance the game for the hardcore fans that play the game to play the game. Although those wouldn't be my top five things they need to fix. First they would need to fix the physics and collision detection, and then make the ratings actual mean something. They had a good thing going back in Madden 04, but 2k5 out did them in that year, yeah the hit stick was great but it lacked everything else. It is time EA made it own "Rewind" and looked back in the day when it was about football and not about the non sports playing gamers.Comment

How about being able to sign people to the practice squad? granted Madden would have to have more FA available.Comment

I'm sure Madden can afford all the sport brands if 2K Sports was able to do so. Better catch animations would be cool, as well as more and better tackle animation.Comment

I understand what your saying, but can the NFL license really get mad if their getting paid by EA anyway .That's why some are mentioning to do both the NFL Network and ESPN.
Maybe I misunderstood the devs when they addressed this. I thought the NFL Network simply did not want all of the presentation devoted to ESPN or any other network besides it's own. I didn't get the impression it had anything to do with it's other television partners. I could very well be incorrect though.
To be honest though, I sometimes wonder if the 'dont-want-to-piss-off-the-NFL' thing is overblown. I'm not one of the guys who labels the devs as liars or anything to that extent. I just personally find it hard to believe that a NFL rep was in a Madden planning meeting and said, "Where the hell does the NFL Network come in? Scrap these ESPN and FOX ideas immediately!" And if it is an issue, marry the two networks like NCAA is doing. Easier said than done obviously, just lending my opinions.
P.S. from what I understand, Madden was subjected to bland presentation [read radio guy] because of a design decision, the NFL didn't impact that. Apparently, they wanted to go with a on-the-field feel for the game.Comment

Re: Five Essential Fixes for Madden NFL 11
Did you write this in a fit of rage?
No offense, Chris, but this-
"For the last few years, we have heard plenty of talk about custom playbooks. But it really comes down to this: We want custom playbooks."
Could be the worst line in the history of OS:PThere are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.
The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

id wish they put ergency in teh game like when your down by 3 and you need to get into field goal range and you complete a pass it takes your offense like 40 secinds just to get to the line. OR when you face the computer and they call run plays wehn there down by 7 with one minute and no timeouts just dumb playsComment

Re: Five Essential Fixes for Madden NFL 11
And these are the five that OS thinks are of the utmost priority? smhAfter five long years, we were finally given a next-gen Madden this year. However, there are still flaws and certain things missing that should have been implemented long ago.
My opinion?
5) Replacing Tom Hammond. While I agree that the decision to use Hammond in 09 was a poor one, I dont know that it is deserving of being "top 5 priority." I would also consider this to be part of the telecast presentation that is #1 on this list.
4) Custom Playbooks. Solid choice. I would also add formation substitutions with this. Proper player personnel is vital to a playbook's success.
3) Advanced Depth Charts. Why so simple? How about, "True NFL Rosters." Starting out training camp with an 80 man roster, and cutting it down to the 53(47 active on gameday) player roster for the regular season. Also, the ability to maintain an 8 man practice squad.
2) Atmosphere. Another item that I would include in the presentation area. I dont know why we assume that these things shouldn't go hand in hand with other upgrades/improvements.
1) Telecast Integration. Ever since we saw NCAA Basketball do this, we have all decided that it is very important. While its a very nice touch, its not something that I think puts Madden on a whole new level. It's just not something I think is "essential."
Continue to improve on gameplay, A.I. tuning, play execution and responsibility, as well as the other areas that were in question for Madden 10. The eye candy needs to take a spot in the back seat for now.

I was for sure the #1 fix was going to be gameplay. I don't care for all the fluff and stuff. Give me the meat and potatoes of football.Comment
