What's your favorite formation? Or do you change it according to your personnel?

I like the 5-3-2, I find it easier to play defense and then set up for through balls.

I use a custom 3-5-2. If you control the midfield, you control possession. With this formation I can dominate every aspect of the game.

4-2-1-2. I like having the strikers up front, the CAM serving a duel threat as a distributor and a potential 3rd striker. The CDM is a huge help to the defense, and can aide the passing game as well. I like having speed on the wings as well as good crossing. Love the diamond.

4-2-3-1 with lower clubs facing stronger clubs.

4-1-2-1-2 for short passing teams or 4-4-2 for longer passing

I use 4-2-3-1.

This formation can be adjusted to 4-2-1-3 if your wingers behind the attacker are set to run forward.
Online I always play 4-2-3-1 and with attacking LW & RW.

This is the best formation for me. Solid defense and great attacking football. With 3-1 attacking players you can attack from the left or right wing or even in the middle because you have so many attacking players.

Almost like the diamond but I don't let me wingers bomb in crosses.

I need that 2nd striker in the box for the last link-up pass.

For me, it depends on the players at my disposal. I've become fond of a custom 4-3-3 in the style of Barca/Arsenal with the RB & LB set as wingbacks and the wingers set as RF & LF. It promotes more central play and less hit & hope situations with one man in the box. I also have a more conservative 4-2-3-1/4-5-1 for holding leads. Never been a big fan of the diamond, as I feel too exposed in the middle of the pitch, although I've never really experimented with a tighter diamond ala Chelsea.

4-1-2-1-2 all the way. I love the diamond. I feel it gives me so many passing angles moving the ball around and in FIFA 09 I played the wings out really wide and threw in a lot of crosses. FIFA 10 crosses are much tougher and I usually try to cut the ball back in with my wingers now.

Question for you 4-3-3 lovers out there. I really want to use it but I feel I am way to spread out in the Midfield and especially up front. I like to pass the ball around with my forwards and I can't keep the three up front close enough together. How do you guys attack with the 4-3-3?

I'm glad I read this thread, I changed my formation to a custom 4-3-3 and it has made a huge difference. I have won my last three games after a dismal start. Now I only hope Galway doesn't fire me at the end of the year and I get a second chance.
