part of the problem with incomplete passes is that just like every other aspect of madden, the catching animations are not fluid and they suction to the ball
there are tons of passes in game that should be just out of the reach of the receivers, but the WR is able to get a little boost to get there... likewise there are often passes that are thrown behind receivers, but then the receiver usually just runs in place or does a little slow down stutter step animation so it hits him perfectly in stride
the core engine for how the game works will never allow for the type of incomplete passes that are realistic... until that is changed the passing game will remain largely unchanged. Unless they can somehow GREATLY reduce the range the ball has to be in to trigger a catching animation, that could be a possible solution (if you look at the WR catching slider, putting it at 100 makes this "suction" range huge, while at 0 it makes it nice and small, except it also makes WR's drop everything... they need to seperate the animation range from the actual catch success so that we can change one but not the other)
