Re: Backbreaker Fact Sheet and Screenshots

I'm an offline franchise guy and I bought APF knowing it didn't have that feature. And the game got old after 6 seasons of Season mode.......especially with exaggerated player abilities where guys like Earl Cambell plowed through defenders like a hot knife through butter on like every play. There's a reason why highlight reels are called highlight reels.....and that's because performances like that don't happen on every play or every other play. So I traded it in (adding to the huge stack of used copies already in place at EB).

I'll likely pick up BB when it comes out if the reviews are solid (if not i'll get it used so the BB devs don't get any of my cash), but I sincerely hope the game amounts to more than a physics engine showcase. If I want to play an arcade football game with exaggerated tackling I could just pick an old copy of Blitz.

What is the point of a football game or any other sport game with out some type of franchise or season mode? It would be like buying a demo for $60.00.

You franchise guys make me laugh. At this rate I hope they put in this huge killer franchise mode that works perfectly. Then when you walk on the field and actually PLAY the game it sucks. This way some of you get a wake up call that franchise is a BONUS. The most important factor should be GAMEPLAY. A game with great franchise and weak gameplay gets zero play time to utilize that great franchise mode.

So first thing a new company and game developer should focus on is GAMEPLAY. Then further year or years should focus on adding longevity(franchise mode).

In the end I honestly hope all of you DON'T get what you want. Cause no offense to any of you all but I want a game I can play. I want solid gameplay over anything else.

It's not that big a deal when you grew up with season only mode games...

If you have played a sports game in the last 10 years they have had a franchise. I have no idea where this stuff is coming from.

LOL @ some of you... because this game has been thought announce a release date several times already, they push back the release date how many times? (Or not announce one, which is it?) So i doubt it was for franchise mode, so everyone who keeps 'dogging' folks who want a franchise mode needs to understand that its going to be raw @ best, the focus has been gameplay....why cant both be solid? Remember its a virgin game of football, it wont be prefect either way.

You gameplay guys make me laugh. Its almost 2010 and this game has been in development for well over 2 years if by now the game doesnt have good game play and some kind of season or franchise mode just give up. "I want a game I can play". Well, it would be safe to say that after all this time if they cant make a game that you can play then they should just give up.

Dude I grew up with games that had no franchise and I had fun doing it. If the game is fun a franchise mode adds to it but doesnt define it totally.

I'm not trying to insult you, but you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Making a game is hard, especially when you are trying to be innovative. It took Madden 5 years (on next gen) to go from crap to an nearly good gameplay. You need to get your mind away from the yearly release games, and start thinking about this as a game like Assassin's Creed, Modern Warfare, Bioshock, or any other revolutionary game. The games I named were all successes but there are plenty of failures too. Its hard to make a good game. Don't trick yourself into thinking that 2 years is so long. It really isn't.

But without a great franchise, the gameplay hardly has a purpose in my mind. Playing the games need a purpose.

No one is going against gameplay here, I'm not one of the idiots who complain about shoe color. But without franchise mode, what is there to play? Play now mode? There is no purpose to that. Online play is laughable in my opinion. There needs to be a reason to play the games. A basic season mode isn't sufficient in my mind unless the gameplay is 100% awesome (which no modern game is close to) or 100% addicting (such as Tecmo Super Bowl)

For me, it's more fun to build a team up then to actually play the games. To each their own. Once again, no one is saying gameplay isn't important. Madden's #1 priority should be to fix the offensive/defensive line play among others. But if franchise mode sucks, the game has no replay value for me at all, and is nowhere worth $60.

Everyone's got their own tastes, no one said you have to sacrifice one to get the other.

If they want to focus on gameplay, great. A sports game that lacks the feature is just something I likely won't jump on early again though. APF was made by the beloved 2k, and was arguably bare bones and all gameplay. That didn't work out great for them. I'd hate to see Natural Motion blow their chance by relying too much on consumers caring about the difference in tackling.

I think a generic game needs those features more than Madden would. In Madden, you play with known athletes and established franchises. It'll always have an online community, and people usually know what to expect from the game. Having a franchise mode in a generic sports game would only get people more involved with their entirely fake teams, enticing them to play more.

Besides, for as long and as high as this game has been hyped up by the same few people, you'd think they'd have easily been able to throw together a franchise mode while making the best football game ever made ever.
