    Top 25 Madden WRs

I decided to make my own overall system for wide receivers on Madden. I got part of the formula from this site, but I changed the weight of each rating drastically. I reduced the ratings that count towards overall to five.
This list is to determine which players you will be more successful with.

Speed, Elusive, Carry, Catch, and Jump.

These are the weight of each ROUGHLY, it comes very close to 100%

Speed 47.02% - How fast you are
Elusive 25.59% - How well you break tackles
Carry 8.03% - How well you hold onto the ball
Catch 17.85% - How well you catch the ball even while being hit
Jump 1.19% - How high you can jump

There are a few exceptions, like Devery Henderson has 98 speed, but lower carry and catch ratings. Randy Moss is lower than expected but he has a high fumble rate.

These players will outrun anyone, while at the same time, they will catch anything, have great carry ratings, and are elusive.

I created this so I can determine who is better when I'm going for online franchise trades.

The first number is the true overall, which is my overall rating with each individual rating weighted. The second number is the players current OVR. The third number is how many overall points the player has gained or lost using my formula. Have fun guys!

A more complete list can be found here:

    1. Steve Smith 99.25 ~ 92 = +7.25
    2. DeSean Jackson 99.22 ~ 87 = +12.22
    3. Percy Harvin 97.87 ~ 81 = +16.87
    4. Devin Hester 95.19 ~ 79 = +16.19
    5. Santana Moss 94.9 ~ 86 = +8.9
    6. Calvin Johnson 94.7 ~ 92 = +2.7
    7. Chad Ochocinco 94.51 ~ 93 = +1.51
    8. Santonio Holmes 94.13 ~ 87 = +7.13
    9. Roddy White 94.09 ~ 93 = +1.09
    10. Randy Moss 93.55 ~ 97 = -3.45
    11. Nate Burleson 93.48 ~ 81 = +12.48
    12. Jeremy Maclin 93.03 ~ 79 = +14.03
    13. Miles Austin 91.91 ~ 85 = +6.91
    14. Wes Welker 91.57 ~ 92 = -0.43
    15. Josh Cribbs 91.43 ~ 75 = +16.43
    16. Eddie Royal 90.46 ~ 81 = +9.46
    17. Bernard Berrian 90.2 ~ 78 = +12.2
    18. Lee Evans 90.02 ~ 85 = +5.02
    19. Mike Thomas 89.9 ~ 70 = +19.9
    20. Andre Johnson 89.59 ~ 98 = -8.41
    21. Johnny Knox 89.55 ~ 71 = +18.55
    22. Greg Jennings 89.25 ~ 90 = -0.75
    23. Louis Murphy 89.24 ~ 75 = +14.24
    24. Donnie Avery 88.8 ~ 75 = +13.8
    25. Johnnie Lee Higgins 88.26 ~ 70 = +18.26

The 4 worst receivers in your list are possibly the 4 best receivers in the NFL. In other words, something's wrong with your weights

There is much much much more to a receiver than the 5 categories you used. If anything, you need to redo this and drop Elusiveness/Carry and add Route Running and Release.

This isn't about the NFL though.. It's Madden. I set my weights to give you the fastest, most elusive, best catching, and least likely to fumbling receivers.

Route Running and Release work so little that you cannot tell.
Route Running definitely doesn't work on Madden because the fastest receivers dominate, not matter what their route running rating is.

Also, if you play Madden, you know that the top WRs are hard to cover.. sometimes they can out run your deep coverage..

I don't agree about ratings not mattering. I can't tell you how many times I've had Ward shake a top CB, stiff arm a DB, and take it to the house on a 50 yard scamper. I think speed is over-rated in this year's version. In the past, I'd agree. Not this year.

Yeah, but Larry Fitz isn't even on this list... He always gets open, is fast as hell and catches EVERY THING!!! He's one of the most over rated player in the game this year, given how he's playing this year...

After that is Andre Johnson, but you have to know how to play him. He's a deep threat, but where he shines is in short little passes and running after the catch... And the fact that he's only a 98, while Larry was a 99, then they dropped Larry to a 98 and left Andre at a 98 as well is a sham... Even in real life, Andre has like 500 more yard and a ton more TDs then Larry Fitz.

After that Steve Smith IS the tops, but again, you have to know how to use him. Again short little passes with the odd long one... Also has one of the most amazing stiff arms in the game...

The old "speed kills" thing is more dead then it was in the past... Route running plays a huge part in how good the WRs are this year. Not having it in your list is a huge over sight.

most of the ratings mean nothing.

Proof? take your fastest DB, put him at the slot receiver..and PRESTO! instant Wes Welker.

At least do a little research...

                  A.Johnson
                  95 catches
                  1504 yds
                  9 tds
                  161 targets

                  Fitzgerald
                  94 rec
                  1075 yds
                  13 tds
                  146 targets

So....Fitz has a better catch/target ratio. Fitz has more touchdowns.

Johnson has more yards, but if you have actually watched any Cardinals games this year, you would see that nearly every team is stopping the deep ball first against the Cardinals. That is why T.Hightower has 61 receptions as a RB this year, 2nd behind R.Rice. They are forced to check down all the time due to heavy deep coverage.

Johnson and Fitz are both beasts, but saying that Fitz is having a bad year is just ignorant.

And this thinking is the exact reason why Andre Johnson remains the most under rated player in ALL of sports... Do you forget that there is a guy by the name of Boldin on the Cards as well? Do you think that 500 extra yards just happens? I may have been wrong with the TD call, my bad... But over all, the numbers don't lie. Andre Johnson is in a league all of his own this year... And the fact that Fitz is playing hurt is just another reason why his numbers should drop...

                      A Wes Welker...that drops stuff.

At least that's in my case. I don't think Ladarius Webb would make a good Wes Welker...not with that 72 CTH.

Ed Reed - maybe, but his CTH isn't all that great (for a WR) and since I have WR with 85 CTH dropping crap left and right, I'd like not to see what a 72 CTH would do (or not do as the case may be).

                        Re: Top 25 Madden WRs

Most of you guys are crazy. Speed is not everything in Madden this year. Maybe this would have worked last year, but there are so much more that goes into being a good WR.

First, your WR is nothing IF HE DOESNT CATCH THE BALL, ask Donnie Avery. You can have all the speed in the world but if you can't catch you can't do anything. The fact you have it at only 17% shows you know nothing about Madden. I play with the Texans and I can beat your number 2 corner all day with Kevin Walters who has 82 speed but high route running and excellent hands. And I guarantee you that Andre Johnson is probably the best wideout on the game.

<OAnd another thing you forgot to add is catch in traffic (CIT). I don't know what level you play on but my WR's with low CIT drop the ball all the times when they get hit. And most of the WR's on your list couldn't catch a cold if they were getting hit which makes them useless.

<OAnd last, the fact you gave Elusiveness %25 is ********. I don't know how many people actually look at the attribute. And again if your WR can't hold on to the ball what use is Elusiveness. This list is crap. All you have are a bunch of track stars not WRs.

all i know is Marques Colston is a beast for me in M '10....his lack of speed actually helps him because he just out jumps the receiver who is behind him on fly routes...unless the wr has the db beat by 5 yards, trailing dbs always win w/ a swat (not crossing routes)
