No, it's a Bears town and always will be, even during the Jordan era.
That being said, if they keep winning Hawks fever will continue to spread. -

I think at it's core it will always be a Cubs and Bears town, but I think the Hawks are just a step behind. Man, I used to love to go see them at Chicago Stadium and then the UC. Back in he late 80's and early 90's we used to go to Chelios's restaurant before the game, head over to the UC and the crowd was always just awesome....Last edited by bluengold34_OS; 12-30-2009, 11:43 PM.Twitch - bluengold34_osComment

Re: Will Chicago ever be a Hawks town? Curious what you guys think...
There's a whole generation of Chicago fans who never saw the Hawks on TV until two seasons ago. These things take time. The Hawks are never going to be as big as the Bears or Cubs (duh), but that doesn't mean they can't be a big part of Chicago's sports landscape.
Cities as big and sports-loving as Chicago tend to have room in their hearts for several teams. Where do the Rangers rank in New York's sports landscape? Fifth, sixth? Yet 1994 was a pretty big deal in the city and not just confined to hockey diehards, no? I've never heard NYC described as a bad hockey town.
The "article" linked above is meaningless, BTW. The guy's not a journalist, just some random blogger who doesn't like hockey.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. I'd say it's a "Cubs Town" as of now. I would love to see it happen, though. Who knows, maybe if things keep going the way they are it could happen.Comment

Re: Will Chicago ever be a Hawks town? Curious what you guys think...
Living close to Chi-town I noticed the Hawks have gained quite a few bandwagon fans this year. It is nice to see them have all their games on TV. The more access fans have to see them play the more fans they will attract. With that being said I am more of a Blues fan then I am a Hawks fan. I grew up a Brett Hull fan and followed the Blues before I ever followed the Hawks.
Wish the NHL would learn this and would strike a deal to have the NHL on ESPN again.Comment

Miget, you say it's Bears above all?
Obviously you live in Chi-Town and would know more about it than me, but I always thought it was
Cubs
Bears and Bulls on even level maybe with a slight edge to the Bears

All in all I say Chicago is a sports town. We will support all teams and even more so if they are winning. Considering the Cubs always sell out and they lose and the Bulls did in the Jordan years and now the Hawks are selling out. Even the Kane County Cougar Athletics minor league team in the far west 'burbs has the biggest attendance in their league. The only time Chicago'ns wont support a Chicago team is South Side White Sox fan and North Side Cubs fans.Comment
