Disc Issues and Installing on HDD

When I went to play Madden yesterday, I put the disc in and selected play game. The Xbox recognized the disc as Madden 10. It took me to a black screen and didn't boot up. I kicked me back out to the Dashboard. I looked at the disc and noticed a significant scratch on it. I tried installing the game, but I got an error message saying my disc could not be read.

My question is: Can I borrow a friend's Madden to install it on my HDD and then use my disc, which is still recognized by my 360, in order to play it off the HDD?

Yes you should be able to do that. I was able to do that with Call Of Duty 4 and it worked.
