PlayStation 2 Action Replay Max Drive question

How do I transfer a roster/franchise file from my PS2 memory card to the Max Drive and have it actually be listed as a Max Drive file on my PC instead of being in a damn folder?

Transferring files from my PC to the Max Drive to the PS2 memory card isnt a problem whatsoever. It's transferring the file back thats causing me a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You have to crush the file first.

Put your AR cd and Max Drive in, go to My Devices and select your memory card as your primary device. Search for the file you want to export, select it and then "crush" it. when you're done scroll down the list again and find the new file that has been created (it has a symbol before the name) that's the .max file. Copy that to your Max Drive and you're done.

    Hope it will help

Re: PlayStation 2 Action Replay Max Drive question

Thanks for the help but I just tried it and this is what happens -

After I crush the file (which has a CT logo or something to the left of it), I try copying it to the max drive. It reads it but when it gets to the writing part, it says "unknown error copying file NFL2K3 roster".

So, obviously thats not it. This sucks because if this deosnt work, then 2K5 will be RIP for me and I will most likely just quit playing football games.

I'm looking into it. As soon as I discover something I'll let you know.

Re: PlayStation 2 Action Replay Max Drive question

I searched over the net and it seems to be a frequent problem, although never occurred to me.

Do you have Action Replay Max EVO?

anyway from what I gathered, the problem should be with the USB stick (Max Drive) not reading correctly...

              in any case, check that:

              • you have sufficient space on your Max Drive
              • the free space on your Max Drive is shown correctly

              if not,

              1. go back to the main menu.
              2. unplug your usb drive and plug it back. the usb drive’s light indicator should be blinking by now.
              3. wait until it stop blinking.
              4. go back to the ‘choose primary device’ menu.
              5. choose USB

              Now check if everything's right

As I said, I get no problem in crushing (compressing) the game saves and then moving them to my MD so I don't know what else can you do

                Nope.

I even formatted the Max Drive via my PC and the same damn error message pops up when I tried copying or moving the file to the Max Drive.

This sucks but it looks like 2K5 will finally be dead for me. Oh well.

                Thanks for your help.

I just tried formatting a regular USB drive that I have from FAT32 to FAT and while the file goes on the USB drive, it still appears in a damn folder. UGH.

Crappy Datel dont even know how to make stuff work. Double UGH.

I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help and that you have to give up such a wonderful game...But at this point I would contact Datel/Codejunkies and ask for an explanation...It could be a faulty AR disk and the might change it who knows?

I notice that you live in Italy. I'm assuming that you're using the PAL version which could be why its working for you and not me.

If anyone else play on PS2??? Help!!!

Re: PlayStation 2 Action Replay Max Drive question

Yes I'm using a PAL system but there were the same issues also with European users so I guess it's not that...

Anyway maybe you tried that already but here they're talking about this "unknown error" and they managed to find a solution, check it out

                        Tell me if it works

                        ALSO

                        check out these two:

from what I gathered it's a common problem, and there is no sure fix...but there may be workarounds as copying the file to another memory card and then to the max drive or
using PS2 save builder to create the file from the folder you get normally

read the above links to get a better explanation

Re: PlayStation 2 Action Replay Max Drive question

                          Thanks for the help.

Went to all three of those links. Downloaded and installed that HP format tool and used it on both the AR Max Drive and a different Pen Drive.

Neither one does what it should. I still get that error when I try to transfer the crushed file and the folder still appears if I transfer the file without crushing it.

I havent tried that PS2 save builder suggestion but I can honestly say that if I have to do that EVERY DAMN TIME in order to get the file to be a max drive file and open in FINN's editor just for a few changes that I want to make, im just going to quit 2K5 and move on to Madden 2010 and play it for what it is and save myself the aggravation and frustration.

Thanks again for your help. It's greatly appreciated.

I downloaded the PS2 Save Builder. I was finally able to transfer the file back to my PS2 after using the Save Builder but as I was expecting, another problem comes up.

The file either shows up as a huge blue block named "corrupted" in the PS2's browser menu or comes up as "damaged" in-game.

                            Yay!!!

Whoever developed AR needs to be shot and buried!!!

                              This is what I use.

It is compatible with .max files and the software included is specialized for file transfers. I've never had any problems with it.

After you assemble a file in the save builder, you can always load it in Finn's editor, just make some minor change, and save the file, and then it will load correctly. I've always found that the easiest thing to do is take a ready made .max roster in save builder and just replace the one largest file with the one largest file from the other save. That's how I've always converted XBOX saves to PS2 format.
