The reason I changed the my controller setup to absolute, is that it makes it a lot simpler and to answer a few question the change to absolute only effects your defensive control. Now for some more gems. The right stick when mastered will help in every aspect of the game. For example, you can now guard the pick and roll more effectively. You can also call for help when caught on a mis-match.
When guarding the pick and roll in the past we have all tried different tactics that flat out didn't work. Now that the right stick D has been discovered you can now set up in a defensive stance when sliding over or under the pick and the offensive ball handler won't blow by as easy in the past. If your caught on the roller, if you push and hold the right stick to the left you will deny the ball to that player and the passer will have a tougher pass to make and more than likely will result in a negative offensive posession.
Defending the mismatch when your caught on a switch or if you are getting killed with penetration bcuz your defensive player just can't stay in front of the likes of Lebron. You can push and hold the right stick to the right and this will trigger your help defense. Hold the right stick to the right and angle your defensive stance by moving the left stick to force the ball handler to either the right or left depending on where your help is set up or coming from. When the offensive player goes to make his move you will see your help step up to either stop penetration or contest when you get beat. In this case you have to know your role. When the offensive player penetrates your help will step up, your next move is to rotate to the open player that your help rotated off. Once you find that player hold the right stick to the left to deny the pass.
I hope this is helping you guys and I know a lot of you may have known this already but some of us and or a lot of us didn't.... Keep ballin 2k brotherhood....
