EA CEO Speaks of an Innovative and New Take on Madden?

    IGN has the juice.

"Electronic Arts says next Madden title will be different. Significantly.

During a conference call with investors this afternoon, CEO John Riccitiello stated both Dead Space 2 and an "innovative" Madden, presumably Madden NFL 2011, will be available during the company's 2011 fiscal year, which ranges from April 2010 through March 2011.

"Looking at Fiscal 2011, I think we've got a fabulous title plan," Riccitiello stated. "We've got a great new version of Medal of Honor, a revitalized Need for Speed, Sims on console, FIFA in a World Cup year, an innovative and new take on Madden, Dead Space 2, Crysis at full margins, a new MMA game, and many others."

You beat me to it! This should cause quite a stir on these forums. Maybe this new "innovation" will finally make this "the year".... Or does it go back to the course of arcade style football.....

Man, as much as I don't want to jump to any conclusions, this does not look good.

I hope it isn't something horrible like a Wii style motion game.

You beat me by a few minutes lol. Well I started a thread on it as well, but since has asked that it be closed. Here's what I posted.

From past experiences with the Madden franchises, Madden + Innovative = Trouble

This news, coupled with the news that Mark Turmell ( NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, etc) is the new creative director for EA's NCAA and Madden football franchises, looks real bad for us sim football fans.

Oh boy! I'm hoping that Madden keeps going in the right direction, but it sounds like we're in for some kind of drastic change this year. Sure would be nice if we could ask Ian about this. Thanks to all the guys that ran him away.
Anyway, as you can tell, I feel like this will be the end of the "sim" Madden as we know it.

I think another worrying quote is:

" The EA CEO had previously expressed his thoughts on the "discouraging" sales of Madden NFL 10."

It's way too early for people to start jumping off bridges.

Since when does innovative mean arcade? Just because a new person with an arcade title background came on board?

Innovation means they feel some pressure with Backbreaker coming out? Maybe a stretch, but you never know.

This is going to get interesting and probably not a good way.

Too many conclusions being made from so little information.

You guys just need to chill out and let EA make their game instead of jumping to conclusions every time the word "Madden" is uttered by an EA employee.

there're only a couple of ways you can give a "take" on football. we have one, there is only one other TERRIBLE HORRIFIC option.

...Madden NFL 2011: The League. *tears*

hopefully John Madden himself will smack the crap out of anything that doesn't even seem like football to him.

                        We have a winner.

Innovative all of a sudden means panic.

                          I'm still not worried...yet.

But I will admit I am becoming a little edgy with these two recent developments...

                            lol

Ok, first of all, I'm not jumping off of a bridge over Madden lol. Since we don't get the little updates and what not on Madden anymore, any news is gonna be BIG news IMO. That's why this thread will get a lot of views before it's all said and done. Now back to the topic:

Let's start adding things up shall we? They hired a new creative director, a creative director that has worked on nothing but arcade sport games. I may be wrong though because I didn't read his whole portfolio of games that he has worked on, but from what I've seen, it's all arcade sports games. That's the first piece. You don't hire someone with a portfolio full of arcade sports games unless you plan on making an arcade sports game. In fact, that's probably the last person you'd hire if you were trying to make a sim sports game.

Next you have the CEO saying that Madden is going to have an "innovative and new take" on Madden this year. Ok, let's think about this. We already know that Ian's take on Madden was everything you see on Sunday you see it on the game. He said that plenty of times last year. Well, now that's the old take. Seeing that Madden is getting a "new take" because of a lack of sales, what do you think that new take will be? I can almost guarantee it will be something that will appeal to a broader audience. You know, just like I know, that appealing to a broader audience is the opposite of what a sim gamer wants.

Anyway, this is all just my take. I don't know any more than you lol. In fact, you may know more than me lol. I've just seen these types of quotes many many many times in the past from EA and they very rarely turn out good for the OS crowd lol. Don't blast me. It's just my opinion lol.

As long as the gameplay is rock solid, I'm okay. I'd prefer a super-simmy sim sim game too, but if it's a balance I'll be happy too. I'd be up for seeing something fresh in the game.
