regardless of what change, if any, is coming, one thing is for sure...

the hype machine has officially been started again... this is the first step to sucking back in all those people that swore off Madden yet again

That rules out Madden going for more arcade or Wii style gameplay.
Ian's already said, Rubber band AI and arcade gameplay wouldn't be Madden innovations. And their goals haven't changed.

Sounds to me like they still want "Everything You See on Sundays"!

The hype machine has a busy answer on this end. Don't need it, still playing 10.

Oh gosh, I hope they don't try and make this game arcade like.

In reading this thread and the one about the hiring of Turmell, I've never seen so many foregone conclusions be made with so little, or virtually no, evidence or facts to support those conclusions.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I know. I was impressed they grabbed someone with a ton of experience.

However, I do welcome a change to make the overall presentation and gameplay elements more fun, but they should blend it with the current sim play mechanics.
Wow. I can't believe you actually wrote this. I've heard 2K gamers called a lot of things, but casual? That's a first. But let me not say to much. I'll probably get an infraction. Even though my comments are innocuous, they are directed at someone who is pro Madden, so that matters little.

As far as your belief that you need to call the right play to actually win in Madden 10, you obviously never play human opponents, nor do you have access to YouTube.

My personal hope is that this new innovation that no one sees coming is that they licensed the Euphoria engine, but won't hold my breath on that.

He has a lot of experience but it is not on core sim football. The gaming world as a whole is wooing the casual gamers riding the wii wave which is smart short term. The thing is in business you have to look further than five minutes in front of your face. When the wii fad runs its course and non-gamers return to what they dont usually do (play video games) the core gamers who driven the industry will be courted once again. When that day comes core gamers will not forget the neglect and open our wallets to companies who stay loyal just as we have thats the only way to gain say so in what gets in or stays out of games.

I hope they adjust numerical ratings and go more towards abilities to describe athletes. I also hope the add more intangibles into the players to give them more character.

I'd also like the locomotion improvements and continued work on player interactions.

I'm tired of all the hoop and hollerin. I want a good game dammit. A quality game. I'm tired of hearing all about the bells and whistles included in this game.

I been disappointed for 4 years in a row. This next Madden, i'm waiting until all reviews, especially from real customers dish out the reviews. None of this waiting in line at midnight ready to fork over my hard earned money for an incomplete game.

After giving some thought to it, one thing that's good about many good arcade sports games is the responsiveness of the controls with some giving unique new ways to control movement.

So maybe the new innovative thing about madden has something to do with the way you control the players?

Let's look at things this way. Forget about Mark Turmell's history of arcade games, forget about speculation of Riccitiello's comments. Just think for a second. What if innovation isn't a bad sign. If it isn't, what do you think it could mean? Maybe EA is finally rising up to the challenge of making a game worthy of the highest sports accolades. One word that Madden has lacked over the past few years was innovation. Madden's been hyped every year, but consumers always wondered when Madden would finally be innovative. I always thought that innovation was the next big step. Something that held titles like Madden NFL 10 from reaching its highest potential. The lack of this, the lack of that are common complaints every year, but what if it is different this time around? Some will take Riccitiello's words for now as they are to them. Innovation will lead to better ways to reach the masses of Madden to improve sales and derail Madden's path to bring simulation football to Madden, but what if they all end up wrong? Ian said that their goals for Madden hasn't changed. It's all up to whether you trust those words or not. All I know is that this news isn't something I'd jump to conclusions on just yet.
