Well, technically the news starts flowing around this time of year, specifically next month. I do see what you're saying, but I think we should be thankful for this little tidbit this early. This news is weird though. Some people take it as bad news and some are looking at the possibilities of true innovations to Madden. It's all speculation, but it is not wise to jump the gun this early.

All the CEO had to say is "innovative and new take on Madden" and it's got all of us wondering and guessing and some, like myself, "jumping to conclusions" lol. Noticed I said all of us, because even if you don't think it's gonna be a bad thing like some of us do, you're wondering what it could be. Geniuses!!! Madden 11 FTW!!! lol
^ This guy gets it. The speculation may be right or wrong, but the fact is, EA wants us speculating. If they wanted to, they could end the speculation. But why do companies do things like this; tell us that there is some intriguing info coming out and then hold on to it for months? Because they want people talking about it.

I may be wrong here, but from what I remember, sales picked up considerably and the PS3 and Xbox 360 sales of M10 ended up ahead of M09 for the first 5 months. Slow start, fast finish.

The PS2 and Wii sales were way down, but I don't think those platforms are relevant to the community represented in these forums.

NCAA Basketball. The TV broadcast implementation was fantastic. This would be my guess for Madden as well. Hopefully Peter Moore has gotten over his goal of having EA Sports thought of in the same light as ESPN and Fox Sports etc. And we can have ESPN and CBS in all of EA's games...

I think that a really well executed telecast package would help EA shift some units.

Honestly guys, I think only good can come of this. I am as sim as they come, but anything to make the same old boring gameplay better I am all for. If they make it straight up arcade with flames shooting out the ball and trails on the person running the ball then I'm out, but I honestly think that will not be the case.

Re: EA CEO Speaks of an Innovative and New Take on Madden?

I think it means another product.
This year we got another Madden product in Madden Arcade. When he says new take, it could mean another new product. If you have an exclusive license, you slice it and dice it as many ways as you can to try and reach more consumers. Remember the rumors about Madden NFL Trainer. Think about all those motion like opportunities. It's going to be a mini-game based product that teaches the techniques of playing pro football. Passing, catching, tackling, kicking, all can be done with these new controller modes coming this holiday season.
I do have some ideas I'd like to see happen.
Here is a number to think about. Over 150 million americans (including a lot of women) play fantasy football. What if this new take on Madden was allowing people to take their fantasy football teams from ESPN and play them in game. What if there was another "season" of the NFL after it ended, that was pure Madden gameplay, that allowed you to carry your fantasy football team over from the regular season into the second season. I admit that is a concept I pitched to EA last year. After the season ends, a second season would begin and we would have NFL players representing their franchises each week. We'd get one MNF type game at the home team players "crib". We see highlights from the rest of the games during the half time show. The stats from these games would carry over to your fantasy team that you had during the regular season, or draft a whole new team.
The show would allow the NFL players who play to represent and show off their personalities. It could also pit players against fans to give people a chance to be on TV/play to represent their favorite teams.

Another idea I'd like to see happen is when a pass is thrown, shift the camera closer to the WR for the catch and defender/receiver battle. At least let us see it from closer than where the ball was thrown from.

A special teams gunner element would be really nice on kickoffs/punts.

How about integration with live games. Play predictor would all you to use the madden game to predict up coming plays while the game streams in?

I do think it's probably Natal/Sony motion controls for passing, kicking FG/Punts and blocking. I think that it's probably another sku not a radical change to the Madden that we all play. Madden NFL Trainer or such, the wii version is pointless IMO, just make some fun NFL mini-games and you'll do better IMO. NFL Trainer for the mini games, NFL Arcade for casual fun, Madden 11 for the usual crowd. Now you've got three distinct markets to cater to.
Either way, half of you will ****ing hate it, and half of you will ****ing love it. NO MATTER WHAT.
I just realized that with Rock Band making extra change for the peripherals (EA loves extra change) maybe we'll be putting those tackling dummies in front of the TV? http://www.allgames.com/main/images/stories/tackle1.jpg

Re: EA CEO Speaks of an Innovative and New Take on Madden?

Madden is going to be called "innovative and new" every year what do you expect them to say?
However if anything ill take my guess and say euphoria is in this year they dont have to take as long as backbreaker did releasing a game because they already have the player models, fields, franchise mode, etc. They also dont have to take out canned animations you can still use euphoria for pile ups, falls, momentum, gravity, ball physics, etc. In one development year you could easily have euphoria physics in madden in some way or another but thats just me being optimistic. But 3D could also be what he meant 3D is a perfect gimmick for madden.
Iventially we will have info and screenshots and what not so dont get your panties in a bunch. If madden fails we still have backbreaker right?

This new game comes out in April doesn't it?

And Madden 11 comes out in August!

                  Is this not true?

I don't know who's in charge of marketing, but they are clueless and horrible at their job. EA thinks it needs to be more arcadey to sell. EA is stupid and will fail especially with it's sports titles. The grown-ups who play these games are getting tired of all the gimmicks and non-simulation aspects.

"New and innovative". This doesnt sound good. They've spent the last 2 years cleaning up and "fixing" Madden. I really hope they dont nuke it and start over again or go in another direction. Madden 10 was a solid step forward IMO. It sure needs more work to get it where it needs to be, but I liked Ian's direction and focus. Fix the gameplay bugs (run blocking, AI) and give a major boost to presentation (full tv-style makeover cameras, halftime, franchise tickers, etc) and get an emotive natural sounding commentary team. BOOM! Madden 11 would rule. EA please dont pul a Madden06 and change what is already working.

Some of you stop take video games way too serious...stupid? really? they've got folks stirring 8 months before release...some are really in a panic, lmao.

It might mean a more hardcore Madden. We have Madden vs. Madden Arcade, which is comparable to NBA live, which is heading more to a hardcore type game (pretty sure franchise will be cleaned up next year) versus NBA Jam. Like is said earlier, EA has put folks in place that will make Madden close to, if not the best football game around, before or after. It may take a year or two, but they are realizing that they need to sell, and what better way to sell than to cover the spread by selling to kids and adults (because yea, i think more grown men play Madden than ever). Josh & Ian come here to get input, i'm sure thats for a reason, also to new creative director knows what he's doing if you read the blog completely, i'm pretty sure we'll see a different madden in the next year or two.

But until then, some of you need to calm down, its 8 months out, and its just a video game, i get some doubts are there, but after this year i cant really doubt that they are getting it right, even though i hope they get a new engine some time soon--but we'll see what the news is.

You are right about one thing. I'm thinking of Madden in January. Only it's Madden 10, how I will beat the Vikings, next game on the list.

I have no thoughts on 11, it's too early for me. Maybe around SB time I'll start getting a little giddy about info.
