Re: EA CEO Speaks of an Innovative and New Take on Madden?

Innovative is nothing more than EA's current buzz word to get people talking (seen in this thread).

They used it with NCAA BBall and it's "innovative" Presentation

And they "innovated" in NCAA FBall with it's defensive cam

And they "innovated" with the goalies in NHL and changes to EASHL

And they "innovated" with the 360 degree dribbling in FIFA

And they "innovated" with some other stuff in some other game.

It's all part of the marketing machine.....look how excited you all are to see what's next.

I would more or less tend to agree with you, but the CEO was talking to a different group, investors in their products. It's probably business speak vs marketing machine, imho. It's a different crowd with investors vs video game football enthusiasts.

Sorry, I meant EA's NCAA basketball game.

My worst fear is that EA's Peter Moore's idea of a 'pay as you play' Madden is on the horizon. That's the day I am done playing football.

Best post in this thread! New and innovative are both hype words that are meant to get us talking about the game. Look what it has done? We are all chatting 8 months before the game releases. Why speculate at this point when it could be anything?

Re: EA CEO Speaks of an Innovative and New Take on Madden?

EA doesn't need to be innovative. Yet. Not with Madden at least. What they need to do is simply fix whats already in the game and give it polish. Something that's probably difficult with a yearly release. Although not impossible, especially if time is being used more efficiently and not being wasted on trying to reinvent the wheel. Once they resolve that, then it makes sense to start expanding current features or adding useful/innovative things to the game so that it doesn't get stale. Stuff like create-a-fan and madden cards DO NOT fit this bill.

I know they would never do it, but going to a two year cycle for Madden w/ DLC for rosters/unis updates in between games would probably be so much more beneficial to the overall development of the game.

Anyways...I'd think it's a little late to make any major ("innovative" lol) changes to Madden 11, if they did. I'm thinking this will be a new game all together. But, then again, this is EA...

New innovative take on Madden. It will not be called 'Gruden 2011'.

Re: EA CEO Speaks of an Innovative and New Take on Madden?

Heres a few things I got from Ian's twitter pg.

                  1. New and Innovative does not mean more arcade.
                  2. Their goals are still the same "Everything You See on Sundays"
                  3. Turmell's hire and JR's(Ceo) statement don't really have any relation to each other.
                  4. Innovative & new does apply to Madden 11 yes.
                  5. Reading all the speculation is interesting and fun.

So maybe this will help clear the fog for some.

                    Innovative and new "take"...

Is it possible that EA is going to Co-Develop Madden 2011 with "Take" 2 or better known as "2k Sports"...

Trying to read between the Lines...

                    Let the speculation begin...

A sim engine that actually plays out games using your settings would be innovative (for Madden anyway, it's been done before).

Of course, that's the thing - are they talking about innovative across the football game "universe" or are they just talking about innovative for Madden?

I'm worried, new and innovative to me means they are going to screw things up. Some dope in a suit who never touched a controller came up with what he thinks is a great idea, oh no! I hope I'm wrong. Madden 10 has been the best Madden game in years. The fact that its January and I'm still playing it speaks to that fact. Usually I'm done with the game in October. It needs a little work here and there and especially with presentation. The only thing that really pizzed me off and I'm still mad about it is that FARCE of the so called "online franchise mode". Whatever they do I hope an improved traditional Madden Mode with a real online franchise will still be available. PS IMO co-op and or an EASHL mode won't work in a football game if that's what they are thinking, again that's just my opinion. Good Luck EA.

Like someone else alluded to, I wouldn't be so quick to get excited about the word 'innovative'. What is the CEO supposed to say? "We're going to pack and ship out the same ol' Madden and pray for better results!"

Yeah, I don't think anything should be read into this one way or another.

It's marketing-speak, the first attempt to stir the waters and get people excited for the next release--right on schedule I might add.

I will say Madden '10 is the first "next-gen" title I've actually started to enjoy playing and can't put down (well, ever since the 2nd patch dropped anyway). I think they're heading in the right direction except for their absolutely atrocious quality assurance process that results in way too many glitches/bugs with every release.

I'm betting the "innovative and new" isn't about the QA process since that's not a sexy thing to market, but a man can dream.
