Re: ACQB M10 Franchise Game Discussion/Ish-Talking Thread
I posted a lengthy response to this a moment ago and the server lost it somehow.I've done this too as of late, and it's really done well. Basically if a screen works against a base D I just think "stay the course" and continue to try to snuff it out in the future. Rarely does a screen go for big yardage against a base D. They may hammer out 5-10 yards every once in awhile, but the risk is actually fairly large with a tackle in the backfield.
In any case, I use the stay the course strategy and it's the most effective for me. My success vs. NO came from controlling a LB or DB and containing the play so that my pursuit could help. Bush would catch one, and I'd have Laurinitis, and I'd take the outside shoulder of the bocker to prevent the big play and let my pursuit run to the ball.
I don't try to pick the ball myself because I'm not that good on the sticks yet. I also don't like man calls vs. screens as much as zones because in man if you miss you're toast. In zone you have multiple defenders there to help with the play.
I've also found a well-timed zone blitz effective in blowing up the screen because it prevents the QB and OL from setting up properly. I had several success stories vs. NO with this strategy.
We can discuss limiting screen calls with gameplay guidelines. My fear in doing this is a slippery slope scenario, but I also know that league longevity is dependent in part on having owners that others enjoy playing. Anyone who limits their playbook so much that screens and PA FB flats passes constitute a major part of the offense simply isn't fun to play, win or lose. I'm open to discussion here.
I called more screens than I thought was good last year with MIA, so now I call 1-2 a game unless I'm facing a PHI-style blitz onslaught every down. For example, of Jackson's four catches vs. NO, one was a screen--the only screen I called that game (and it was a no-gainer). One was a sick wheel route, and two were on designed routes from the backfield where he happened to be open b/c of the matchup/call.
I have personally enjoyed opening up my playbook a lot. I throw all kinds of routes now that I didn't throw last season, and the result is more fun for me and a more complete experience for my opponent. I felt cheap when I had almost 1000 yards receiving with Brown and easily 800 came on screens. The guy who had STL before me looks to have thrown a bunch of them to Jackson, but I'm working one game at a time at bringing the balance of the offense back in line with reasonable standards.
I think most of our owners want the same for their teams.Comment

Due to the offensive struggles in Cincinatti, Shaun Hill will be benched indefinitely. Tim Tribow will make his first professional start against the Baltimore Ravens in week 8.Comment

Re: ACQB M10 Franchise Game Discussion/Ish-Talking Thread
Ive gotten called for PI jumping screen passes, every now and then.
If you are using a safety, you can get there; but you have to cheat up towards the LOS if you smell it if you are using the FS.
If you are using a SS you should be able to knife through the linemen and get between the QB and the HB, just as if you were using a LB. You are closer to he line the SS, and you are faster then the LB, generally.
The problem with the screen pass in this game, is that the AI makes your defensive players ignore their assignment, and walk themselves into blocks, in order for the play to work.
You'll see this nonsense happen on a WR screen vs a hard cover 2, and even press man.
Another trick vs the screen is to audible your DLs to rush wide....they create a bit of a barrier, and they flow to the HB better.Last edited by sportyguyfl31; 01-12-2010, 07:34 PM.Comment

Good game new Chargers owner. You played great pass defense, but Donald Brown just would not go down. The the pick sixes didn't help yah either, but it happens. Good effort in trying to mount a comeback.Comment

I can lock this play down, and it's actually a pretty easy to read... I just need to have a better finish once I get to the HB.
Another nice advantage to playing DL on 3rd down is sniffing out screens. You can completely take that aspect away.
I've had the most success playing pass D though lately.Xbox Live Gamertag: CreatineKasey
