Defense is terrible in this game and it always has in the 2k series, the computer wont guard there players, I was guarding Mo will with Gilbert and Caron was supposed to guard Lebron but the computer made Butler go under the hoop while lebron floated to the 3 point line, the cthis happens way to much in this game, and yes I was playing man to man..

i agree. cpu defense is just too damn dumb in this game!...

was saying the same until i discovered right stick defense, it compensates "headless chicken defense" syndrom

for me now it seems 2K wanted to make Defense completly usercontroled and not the AI taking over your team but they just didnt tell us how to do it and this is for me the real dumb thing.

fellas, i'm seriously not seeing anything!! i'm playing on HoF, slight slider adjustments for fg% and i've got the controller settings at 0 for def assist and absolute. when i hold the right stick to the left my man does a def stance only if i get close but he does this even if i don't touch the right stick. and nothing happen when i press and hold the stick to the right for help.

the only way i'll believe this works is if a 2k rep says its valid. other than that i'm not convinced...

well its been now explained several times in 2 diffrent threads, with diffrent explanations by several users, its working for sure, if you dont see nothing u must have done it wrong. it has nothing to do with religion and believe (neither def assist or difficulty) - its a fact :P

even if 2K would confirm that u would have zero out of it cuz you seem to not doing it right.

edit: holding R Stick to the right does 3 things as far as i seen after a few matches:

1. Help Defense if you get beat off the dribble in a much smarter way then with the standard programmed rotations
2. Triggers your whole team to get out and contest every shot by open men which were left on the perimeter cuz of rotations
3. Being much more aware of passes and making deflections and steals (but i admit i didnt figured this one completly out, still need time to test it properly)

for those who think it doesnt work make the postgame tutorial and just always defend with you center, holding R Stick to the left and the L Stick always pushing into the offensive player, mix it with lock down D and you see other contest animations, at least i did

wooow, i really wish i could see what you guys are seeing. it's not that hard to understand what to do but when you do it and don't see the reported results, then it puzzling. when i'm getting beat off the dribble and press the right stick to the right for help, i'm not seeing anything. same for when a man is left open and i want a defender near by to contest the shot. still...nothing...

still a great game non the less but...

thats odd, maybe u have to do it much earlier, dunno, but i saw that if im just a second to late sometime no one is going to contest, if im quick theres almost always some1 running at the shooter.

just hoping for the patch on pc for fixing rotations, there some opponents like magic were u get killed by 3s cuz of the idiotic double teams that arent needed. even with all those defensive controls its partial impossible to defend

would love the game without those issues ...

well...after trying this for 8+ games... i've yet to see a difference soooo i've gon back to my original settings (camera related and defen. assist 50). i wa enjoyin the game with those settings and getting good results. until i see proof of the difference, i'm out!...

ps: i'm noticing you can do these same functions with the default settings. if the OP waas 2ks intent, then they would've informed us...

C'mon Son! Your telling me that ALL of this is triggered just by holding the right stick??? I think some of those stuff are just in your mind. I've tried this over and over and really do not see much difference. Only difference i've seen is that in the post my player defends the opponent really tight and pushes up on him....but i've seen nothing on the perimeter.

I played a few ppl online and i seen them switch to Absolute( i guess they were trying this strategy) but i still beat em off the dribble pretty easily.

Not knocking your strategy, but í havent seen much difference.
Good Help defense comes when you defend the regular way as well....i think you guys saw it happening and thought that holding the Right Stick actually triggered the better help D.

Agree... Also the left trigger does the same for post defense...

The only thing I get with right stick defense are swipes and the two-hand up standing contest stance

well, im still on pc with no patch and stupid double teams which cant be turned off and horrible rotations, without the R Stick defense i had to rotate manually constantly switching players every sec and at the end i was to late anyways resulting easy scores by the cpu every freakin time. now if im holding it earlie enough when im anticipating a kickout to an open perimeter guy i see 85% of the time some1 running out on him so yes, im seeing things, things i've NOT seen before cuz there are triggerd by myself...

so it helped me definitly holding the HOF cpu under 49FG% which i never did in this game. it worked for me and after the world ends and pc gets a patch i finally be maybe able to have constant fun with this game especially with defense. cant and wont say anymore to this topic, ive already wrote way to much :P
