Noob to Association Mode? Here's what to do to avoid 2k's glitches.

After hours & hours of trawling through the NBA 2k forums on here and hours of wasted time playing Association mode only to have to restart it because of glitches/bugs, i've decided to compile relatively short but essential list of what to do (settings) & why when starting an Association.

    1. Player Roles: Turned off (Only if you have downloaded Patch #2) - This will stop a glitch where the Bigs in the game will throw stupid amounts of 3pt/Long range shots causing their stats to be messed up.
    2. CPU Trades: Turned off - This will stop the most stupidest CPU trade logic in a sports game from ruining your Association (top players being traded to 5-6 different teams within a single season!) To get around this: Only turn cpu trades on at the start of February (that way you only get 2 weeks of crap trading before the trade deadline)
    3. D-Leaguer Glitch UPDATE: The cpu only seems to start signing D-L'ers from 11/7....so you have a week to change the D-L'ers potential's to 35. But if you dont want to change all the D-L'ers in that week, if you check your Transaction news every other day and if some teams have signed a D-L'er, simply go to Rosters, find the player in whichever teams roster and edit his potential to 35. Afterwards he wont get a game all season unless the team really really struggles with injuries (rare) and come the off-season the team wont renew his 1yr contract meaning they'll be back on the FA list and no team will ever sign them again.(This stops the cpu from signing all the D-League players and leaving all the free agents to get old and ****ty - its just not realistic)
    4. Set the cpu to sort out Pre-Draft workouts: This will 9/10 avoid you losing the pre-game team & player intros in the rest of your seasons.
    5. F.A. Contract Glitch UPDATE: If you use custom Rosters from 2kshare, read on. If not and you start an Association with Living Rosters then this glitch doesn't effect you.
BEFORE you start your association, you have to go to those players that have the "2010 - 2011 contract glitch" like (Boykins, Udoka, Antonio Daniels, Tinsley, Barry) & so on.... sign them to a team & then edit their contracts so that is only a value in the first year & the others are grayed out & then save.... then release the player from the team & repeat steps for all of the problem players.... save the roster & start a new association using that roster & the issue will be resolved.

If anyone has anymore suggestions or if i've missed anything off the list then please post them up.

Can you speak further on point 3? I'm curious about this one.

On another thread within this forum i've read that a lot of people are experiencing the cpu to sign D-League players over the free agent players during the course of a season. This just wouldnt happen in real life that's why if you lower D-Leaguers stats in offensive & defensive awareness catergories and also lower their potential catergory the cpu doesnt do this.
If you dont the cpu will carry on to sign all the d-leaguers leaving the free agents to dry up & go stale.

Now that patch #2 is out, this is very helpful - thanks.

Where do you edit the D-League player ratings? Is it within the Association?

Yes. You can do it through the d-league menu or edit the created players on the free agency list when you start an association.

Another question - OP, you mentioned that you turn on CPU trades in February. I thought you only had 1 chance, at the beginning of an Association, to change this setting. Are you saying that this setting can be changed at any time and in any season?

Also, I assume you are not controlling all 30 teams. I've been torn on this because I would like to make all the real life trades as they happen, but don't want to have to do that season after season.

you can turn cpu trades on and off at any time in any season. whilst in Association go to: Options\Association settings...its the third option down.
No i dont control all 30 teams, to me controlling all 30 teams is a ball ache & takes to much time IMO. But if you want to make trades as and when they happen in real life you will need to control at least 3 or 4 teams and have the 'Trade override' (in assoc. settings) option on then when the cpu makes a stupid trade you can change it back by making 3-way trades using your draft picks etc. until you correct it to what it was...or something like that anyway - i havent actually tried this method but there is a thread about it somewhere in the forums, just search the forums for 'trades' and im sure you'll find it. The thread is called "Cpu Trade Logic" or something? The same method/logic applies if you want to make trades that have happened in real life.
              Hope this helps?
Personally the two weeks in Feb before the All Star games & the trade deadline is just the right amount of time to stop the crappy cpu ruining your game altogether. The odd one or two crazy trades i dont mind because it keeps the game fresh and entertaining in a way. But for them to happen every single week really annoys me & makes the game unplayable.

                LOL - yes, this!

Thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to starting an Association this weekend.

good to have the option for those of us who want to control all 30.

ball ache to have to turn things on and off at certain times of the year. you can control all 30 and still automate various aspects of the association that you dont want to have to do.

easier to keep up with real nba trades instead of having a guy traded and then traded right back to the same team, even in 2 week time period.. silly trading. also keep all those fa and dleague signings from happening. also can set mpg and rotations

ball ache to go in and edit all the d-leaguers,change trades back, 3-way trades, etc

I'm glad someone started this. This is exactly what I have been doing.

-I haven't downloaded and don't intend to download the new patch.
-I control all 30 teams and make fair trades.
-The only difference is I lower the potential to 35.
                    -Yet to reach this deep.

Also, I would change simulation strategy to 'User' because otherwise it will mess with the rotations.

                      great post ^

funny you say that because i totally agree... i would go through the whole scenario that you just outkined above but after all of the turmoil this year & this latest patch... i am switching to a "control-all-30-teams" guy. they give us the option to have the cpu control certain aspects of that anyway so its all good in that area.

Absolutely - I keep it off permanently. I don't want any silly trades in my Association.

one thing that sucks about controlling 30 teams, there is no competitive free agent period. if you set the cpu to handle contracts, they will auto-sign at the end of the period leaving the pick of the litter for 23 days with whatever team you are actually controlling.

i suppose you can go through and make contract offers for any team you think would be interested in a certain player but that certainly ends up being a huge ball ache!

and yes i said ball ache, had to keep it going lol

How bad does this 'only sign' d-league players get? Will there be tons, of let's say, proven veterans (OVR 70+) left in the FA? And how long into the association does it occur?
