Curl Routes
The curl route. A good play in Madden but how many times does a receiver break like three tackles and the animation has him running back to the LOS. A ten yard gain turning into a 2 yard gain. Does forward momentum dictate that he gets the ten yard completion or does he get spotted where he's finally tackled?Because I live in van down by the river...Tags: None -

I also hate when they jump and move back about 4 yds then ended up right in range of a DL or LB and turn a 7 yd gain into a 3 yd gain.
What I've found is if you're getting hit and the guy isn't going down - DON'T DO ANYTHING - and hope he gets tackled before the tackle is broken. If that happens, then I find I always get forward progress - however, if the tackle is broken then he gets hit right after, then the place where the tackle is broken is where the spot usually is."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Curl Routes
Seems you have to wait until the CB is playing off. The WR will get his depth and you can throw it right at the top of the route, and the WR should be able to bring it in. Just watch out for a buzz zone from the OLB or the SS."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Curl Routes
trust me man...i know exactly what you're talking about. but it seems in this years game the CBs back pedal FOREVER and are always on the balls of their feet ready to jump the pass.Comment

Re: Curl Routes
The curl can work, but you better be sure thatyou throw it, just at the point he wastalking about.
The reason why the "jumping" is happening, is because the CBs lose no speed backpeddling, or transitioning from packpeddle, to a sprint, or a drive back to the ball.Comment

Re: Curl Routes
Curls are all about timing in this game. I think they beat soft man, cover 2 hard, cover 4, and cover 3 zones without buzz zones on that side. That's a lot of defenses!
I like to go and use curls against an opponent who uses base cover 3 a lot as it's a very safe, consistent call that can still go to the house if you shake that one CB behind him. Going to a safe curl route on a 2nd and long or even on a 3rd and medium is a great idea. I love seeing a base cover 3 when I come out with curl-flats called. It's easy pickings at that point.
Curls don't work against man press or cover 2 soft zone, so keep that in mind.
This may not have answered anything you were talking about, but I've been itching to talk a little bit about the curl route in M10 for a while now.Xbox Live Gamertag: CreatineKasey

Re: Curl Routes
Yeah. Its a great route to run especially when its man coverage. Just when sometimes its on a third down and ill have the first only to miraculously break about three tackles and end up closer to the LOS.Because I live in van down by the river...Comment

Re: Curl Routes
You talking about this animation where the WR makes the catch, breaks a tackle and loses all of his forward progress? On this particular play, Rice gets it back.

Re: Curl Routes
Just threw a curl complete for a 1st down in my franchise (Ravens). Threw it to Mason out of the Strong I Pro set, FL Flat.
The DB was playing off, the LB was covering McClain in man, so when Mason hit the full depth of the route - I cut it loose, Mason saw it caught it, gained 10 yds on 2nd down.
And yeah, that's the play I hate in the clip. Stiff arm backwards for several yards. That time, he didn't get tackled, but if he did after he broke that tackle - he'd have lost those yards"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Curl Routes
Yea that shows that superman CB still is in madden 10 this year and alot worse. Use to I could do curl routes and hooks routes good. But now it seems none of it hardly works anymore unless you play on rookie. The AI could be 5 yards off and you do a curl route and throw it and the AI would still get there just in time. The AI is perfect on both sides of the ball this year. Espially on D The AI does not give your WR hardly any breathing room. But yet you see teams like the saints and colts WRs get open all day. But yet in madden 10 the AI plays almost perfect D every down. I hope Ian and crew tones down the AI D some.
I don't know about that.
I see my DBs get beat and I can beat the AIs DBs. Holes are in zones, man coverage isn't always perfect. DBs 5 yds off don't always get there in perfect time.
I certainly don't play on rookie. By "level" the sliders I'm testing/playing with now are between 13 and 18.
I don't think the AI needs to be toned down, per se, just some of the..."great plays" just need not to exist or at least be limited to the top players in the game.
But it seems Madden is an offense oriented game given how many big plays and the effort it was, at least for me, to try to get the game to were 20 points per team really was an average scoring day, not a below average one.Last edited by KBLover; 01-25-2010, 03:56 AM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Curl Routes
This is spot on, but you can't throw when he's actually in his turn, the WR must already be heading back and the CB needs to be a good yard or 2 off him, and you must FIRE the ball in there. Firing the ball in there typically makes sure the ball is thrown short, which means the WR has to come back even further to make the catch, making it even harder for the CB to make a play on the ball.Comment

Re: Curl Routes
I don't think it's an offensively oriented game, instead there are a couple of flaws that lead to extra points. High interception rates that lead to TDs (many times on the INT return itself). The stubborn desire by Ian and crew to not utilize catchup speed coupled with poor pursuit angles and no concept of a running lane allowing for big plays that otherwise never would have happened.Comment
