2010 FIFA World Cup Q&A (Gamespot)

Gamespot has posted a Q&A with 2010 FIFA World Cup Line Producer, Simon Humber.

Gamespot: "What's the main aim for FIFA World Cup 2010 in terms of gameplay and AI improvements? Are there any control changes we need to know about?"

Simon: "The game is not just about visuals, though. The gameplay has over 100 enhancements--some major, others subtle--so players will notice a difference in how World Cup plays compared to FIFA. So here are just a few of the improvements you'll get in World Cup. We'll talk about other aspects of gameplay closer to release."

Yup, good interview. Several things there we were hoping to see fixed from 09 to 10, but at least they're in now.

I didn't buy FIFA this year, but I'll definitely get this... love the little improvements, and I LOVE trying to get to and win the World Cup!

          Like reading this:

Improved marking for when the CB pushes up to the ball possessor when he shouldn't, leaving the team vulnerable to an easy through ball and 1-on-1 with the GK.
While I understand that you have to control most aspects of your defense, having the rest of your backline and even mids react and help out and not be brain dead would be welcome.

Truly most of this list should've been in a patch for FIFA 10.

              True.

I'm getting this. I'm a sucker for the UEFA Euro and WC games. Presentation seems to be almost always better as well.

Hopefully they (EA) will address most of the gameplay issues from '10 for the WC game and then use their time to fix the bugs in Manager Mode for FIFA '11

I'll agree that a lot of this should be a FIFA 10 patch but I'm really excited that a lot of what they claim to have fixed encompasses some of the most annoying stuff in the otherwise great gameplay of FIFA 10!

                  * New chest traps that allow you to chest the ball in the direction you want to go rather than having to take midair touches after a chest to change direction.

                  * Defensively players will now clear an aerial ball rather than do a chest trap first when you are asking for a clearance.

                  * Improved the "narrowing down the angle" logic so the keeper doesn't come out so soon and so far, making him vulnerable to the chip shot.

                  * Added more skill moves for the CPU to use depending on a player's flair attribute or trait.

                  * Improved marking for when the CB pushes up to the ball possessor when he shouldn't, leaving the team vulnerable to an easy through ball and 1-on-1 with the GK.

                  * Added chest and shoulder passes.

                  * Lowered the likelihood of the CPU scoring from FKs--they were too good.
Can't wait to try this out if even half of these are true... the presentation/graphics look great in the screenshots too!

Great interview. Sounds like it's going to be a great game. Hopefully the improvements haven't made them change things that were working well.

                    Day 1 purchase for me!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that.

I might buy this day 1 as well. Always liked the FIFA WC games more than the regular FIFA games. Oh how I wish they would add an indoor mode like was in the '98 version.
