Sick and tired of not being able to play DEFENSE

attributes mean nothing. It's literally LUCK whether or not the cpu converts 3rd downs or not. It's amazing EA. Good for you.

Don't tell me to d-up either. I'm way ahead of you.

Re: Sick and tired of not being able to play DEFENSE

I have a pretty strong defense, indeed my defense has really been the corner stone of my dynasty and kept me competitive despite seeing my offense wax and wane throughout the years. But there are times when the CPU will always get that first down. I don't know if this is programmed in or what, but I have blitzed 11 men before and watched the QB or HB shake them all and eek out a first down. I have seen their WR make catches with four men all over them and yet come down with the ball. Sometime just for S&G, on third down plays I will pause right as the CPU throws and the commentators will start talking about how good the play was before it is actually over. But at the end of the day, it is just a game. If you are looking for it to be real, then suit up and play some real football. Otherwise, just kick back with a cold one and enjoy the game. This coming from the guy that has broken quite a few controllers in his life.

What sliders do you use. I have found with "Blues Varsity Sliders" the game plays 10x's better then with any other sliders I have played with. I have not seen what you are talking about. In 3rd and short the CPU will run the ball or pass, & 3rd in long I have seen the CPU call a run like a give up play to get get a trunover. I can get stops and at times I do give up the 1st. I have yet to fell like the CPU is cheating or scripted to always get a 1st down.
Relax, it's just a video game!

Using default Heisman sliders. The speed of the ball through the air is just ********. I've been playing '03 and '04 all weekend and then I pop in the '10 ps3 version to continue my dynasty and it just is what it is. I have to program myself to deal with the game before I can enjoy it. I'll enjoy it more tonight, it just sucked coming off of that quality gameplay all weekend.

That's the problem default sliders esp on heisman are terrible.

If you're playing as GT then one might claim that it's fairly realistic of what happened this year, yes?

Re: Sick and tired of not being able to play DEFENSE

I play with Playmaker's sliders w/ a few tweaks to favor the CPU. I run the odd stack defense and usually play straight man or man under but i'm always bringin pressure either from LBs or from safeties off the edge. On obvious passing downs you have to have 4 hands on the ground or you won't put any pressure on their QB. Playing zone might work here and there if you rarely run it but man is by far the more effective coverage because it's the best at putting your guys into position to make a play, whereas the CPU QB will usually pick apart zone. If your secondary is not very fast/skilled then i advise playing off man rather than press man. And if you do play press man out of the 3-3-5 then you better make sure your safeties are fairly quick b/c they will try to burn you on smash routes. Schemes for running the football are a joke on this game so that shouldn't be a problem to stop either.

D UP! I don't have the most talented defense, but i make the most out of them by mixing coverages and manually stopping the run first. I play on default heisman and by no means do I say it's a perfect game, but just like in real life if you can take away the ground game you can make them predictable and force them into mistakes.

Re: Sick and tired of not being able to play DEFENSE

I do have to say I've had some issues with defense. Nothing really big, it's pretty consistent. But I do have to say that sometimes I can play a team like USC who had an A+ offense in the fifth or sixth year of my dynasty and stop them cold, then the very next week play some team with a C offense and stuff their run just fine mostly, but no matter how I try to mix up coverages, blitz, man, zone, press, everything.. they seem to get a lucky pass on 3rd down and convert more often than not. It doesn't happen every game, and it doesn't bother me all that much, but it seems like it happens in a pattern like that. Either I stop them cold or the whole game or they somehow manage to consistently convert on 3rd and 30. Just seems odd.

Re: Sick and tired of not being able to play DEFENSE

I had this happen with a recent game against Navy. My defense was rated 89 going into the game with their offense rated 61. Every single drive the Navy had in the first 3 quarters went something along the lines of run stopped for -2 yards, QB sacked for -5 yards, pass play for 17 yards and new first down. This was every single drive they had until the fourth quarter. They were behind and I stopped them on 3rd down three straight times, only to have them go for it on fourth and make it each time. One was on a 17 yard screen pass, another was on a 12 yard run, where the HB was literally stopped by my safety and he grabbed my safety with one arm and tossed him right to the ground. Many times there would have been opportunities for me to make the tackle, but the switch player would end up well away from the play. Again, the switch only happened on the 3rd down and 4th down plays in which they made the first down. I would have been really pissed if I lost that game. I mean ranked #1 and losing to the Navy like that would be just too much.

Re: Sick and tired of not being able to play DEFENSE

I find that if I control anyone other then a DT or DL, defense against the CPU is pretty repetitive.

The CPU follows the same passing progression s, all of the time.

If you control a robber coverage safety, or yellow zone linebacker, you can rack up user picks because the CPU looks middle, flat, and as a last resort, down the field.

There's no defense in football games on the 360 / PS3. If you want to play defense, get an original xbox or ps2 and play NCAA Football 2005 on heisman difficulty.

You have to adjust the sliders and the game becomes so much more enjoyable. You're never gonna stop all the cheat stuff the cpu does on Heisman level, but, you can level the field off. I'm on 360 and found the perfect sliders for me at least. Only problem is the come back engine on Heisman cpu still controls it's players as well as yours, so you're gonna have guys drop easy passes/int's and the out of no where fumble.

I was playing a great game last night Miami (me) against Oklahoma (cpu) I was up 20-17 in 4th qtr and had the ball. I called a motion wr option everything was perfect until the pitch. My qb had pitched great all game until now...I pressed LT to pitch and he didn't pitch, so I try and gain a few more yds with qb. Well, all the sudden he pitches while I'm being tackled at a crazy angle he forces the pitch with out me pressing LT. The ball flies 3 yds in front of my rb who clearly ignores the ball until it's picked up by cpu and returned for a TD!

I was only down 4 so I wasn't too upset it had been a great game until then. Well, on my next possession I tried a speed option from shotgun formation...again, everything was perfect until the pitch. I had two defenders between me and a 70 yd TD..they both committed to the qb I press LT..nothing happens..I press LT again..again nothing happens..I press LT a third time..the qb attempts to pitch it but decides for some reason to pull it back in faking the pitch.

I press LT a fourth time as the defenders crush my qb he decides he wants to pitch this time...problem is he pitches behind my rb by about 5 yds cpu picks it up races untouched for another TD!

Every game I've played with the new sliders was fun except that one.

Do not do this. If you're playing on Varsity, you're just gonna end up winning by 60+ every game.
