Re: GI: Joe Mauer The Show inteview
Yeah I think Ichiro is a great player and sure hall of famer. IMO, I think Mauer is a better hitter.
Another interesting stat comparison between the two is strikeouts and walks. Here is the 09 breakdown:
Mauer:
SO 63
BB 76
Ichiro:
SO 71
BB 32
As you can see Mauer has walked more than struckout. That is quite an accomplishment.Comment

The speed of the player (Ichiro) would have a lot to do with that as well.Yeah I think Ichiro is a great player and sure hall of famer. IMO, I think Mauer is a better hitter.

I'll take Mauer.
You could come up with a couple of OF'ers close to Ichiro.
I don't think there is a catcher in the game that even comes CLOSE to Mauer.
Both great players either way.

Ichiro is obviously one of the best players in baseball...but to me there is no comparison.
Mauer's a catcher and what that guy does from such a grueling position is almost unreal.Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Joe Mauer Interview (Gameinformer)
LOL you baseball nerds... Only baseball fans could turn a Mauer interview into a "Who's better? Ichiro or Mauer? As of right now, Mauer is better statistically, If you can even compare a Catcher to a RF. If you asked a GM of any team who they wanted it would be Mauer. What he does as a catcher is borderline legendary, and he is way more valuable at his position then Ichiro is.
No knock against Ichiro though, He's one of the Mlb's best hitters, and is a tremendous rightfielder with a cannon of an arm. But in this stage, your a fool if you pick Ichiro over Mauer, Ichiro is getting up there in age, and Mauer is just now hitting his prime. No Question who the better player is RIGHT NOW.Comment

Re: GI: Joe Mauer The Show inteview
Sorry...NO WAY.
You may hate him...but this belongs to Ty Cobb....
.366 lifetime BA(over 24 seasons!)
11 batting titles(including losing in '22 with a .401 average!!)
Led the league in hits 8 times...
Had over 200 hits 8 times(156 games per season...not 162)
and after getting the regular starting position...his 3rd season never batted under .325(until his final season... .323)
Batted over .400three times(including the record .420).... .390..... .382.... 380+ quite a few times....uggh...do I need to go on?
Oh...yeah....was stealing 70/80/90 bases regularly.
The man was a MACHINE.

If Ich was the same age I would take him over Mauer. Using your same logic who will hold up longer?
