Is Drew Brees a Hall of Famer?

I've been thinking about this for a bit now even before the Super Bowl. Even though Brees has statistically been a great QB for a while now, he never had the storied Post-season success of others QBs like a Brady/Manning/Warner (up until this season)... which kind of led him to not get much of the recognition among the National media as an "Elite Quarterback."

I think this season he proved he wasn't just a stat compiling QB but a leader, who was invaluable to the Saints team along the way to them winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

This post season he had a 116.9 passer rating, throwing 8 Touchdowns to 0 Interceptions while tying a Super Bowl record for completions with 32. This regular season he set a Record for completion percentage with a 70.62 percentage. Last season became only the 2nd Quarterback in the NFL to pass for over Five thousand yards in a single season with 5,069 total passing yards falling 15 yards short of Dan Marino's record. In a four year span '06 through '09 Brees has passed for the most yards of any NFL quarterback with 19,298 yards followed by Peyton Manning with 16,939, and is tied with Manning for most TDs during that period of time with 122. (I don't believe this includes post season)

IMO I think with a few more decently productive seasons Brees will be in... (20 tds/3k yards) which shouldn't be much of a problem for him. Also what do you think people would of thought of Brees' legacy had the Saints lost this game? One of the great statistical QBs who was overshadowed by playing in the same time frame as Manning, Favre, and Brady?

He's not now but he definitely will be unless he gets a lobotomy and forgets how to throw the ball. The oldest skill position player is 27 so he'll keep putting up his numbers and he's not old enough for his skills to degrade. If there was any doubt that he was an elite quarterback he got rid of that with his performance tonight, though.

By the end of his career, he could probably get in on stats alone. 1 more ring and it's pretty much automatic.

He will be if he keeps up his pace. 50,000 yards, over 300 TD's with a 65+% completion percentage, I'd say so.

So a few very good years and a Super Bowl and it's HOF discussion time?

If Brees never takes another snap no way he goes in.

          Give it some time.

3-4 more years of this current pace and a couple deep playoff wins and another SB appearance or victory and he's a HOF'er in my book. Probably not a first ballot guy but he'll get in within 5 years of eligibility.

                    HOF'er RIGHT now? No.

But, at this point he'd have to REALLY screw up to blow it. He's been playing well for 6 years straight, threw in a 5,000 yard season, and a Super Bowl win in which he actually had one of the best performances of all time. The media likes him, and history is always kind to players that are largely responsible for resurrecting dead franchises.

He can pretty much cruise now.

What do you mean if he never takes another snap again? No Brees isn't a HOF'er. He has the ability to be one because, as of right now if Manning retired Brees would be the best QB in the league.

But yes this is way to soon.

Oh never mind I know what you mean.

Either an injury or a roster implosion. Outside of that, I agree with you, he's likely to get there.

                              Option 2, possibly.

I am not the biggest fan of the guy (a minority I know), but I cannot help but respect/admire the skills of the man at QB. One hell of a player who has had one hellova 3-year span so far with his new team, The New Orlean Saints.

If I take one positive from the humble pie I dined don today from Brees, it's this: Brees winning must knock off Archie Manning as the most loved QB in New Orleans history Love that. Sick of hearing about him every time we have to talk about New Orleans or the Manning brothers.
